JACKSON DRAGWAY TRACK OWNER HAS MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS

 

 

Scott Wood admits in all of his years in drag racing; he's never seen anything like what transpired Saturday evening at Jackson Dragway.

Woods, the owner of the strip located in Western Tennessee, was watching as two Outlaw Pro Mods prepared to stage. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a late model Pontiac, speeding at an estimated 70-miles per hour, headed straight for the two racers on the starting line. The car appeared to be on a collision course for the car in the left lane. At the last minute, drifted right before striking the concrete protective barrier which protects the Christmas Tree and starting line personnel.

The details are still largely unknown, but apparently, a car struck the starting line at Jackson Dragway in Jackson, Tenn.

There were plenty of familiar faces competing at the 2019 Mile-High Nationals, but it was a surprise to see Kenny Delco.

“The last time I think I was here was 1990,” Delco said.

TONY SCHUMACHER OFFERS UPDATE ON SPONSOR SEARCH

During the offseason, one of the biggest stories if the not the biggest story was that eight-time Top Fuel world champion Tony Schumacher was not going to start the season while he pursued sponsorship opportunities.

The Mile-High Nationals in Morrison, Colo., are the 14th race of the season and Schumacher has yet to make a start.

TORRENCE, HIGHT, FREEMAN AND M. SMITH SECURE NO. 1 SPOTS AT DODGE MILE-HIGH NHRA NATIONALS

Steve Torrence continued his dominant pace on Saturday, powering to the No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel during the 40th annual Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Bandimere Speedway.

Robert Hight (Funny Car), Richard Freeman (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also qualified No. 1 in their respective categories at the 14th of 24 races during the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

HAGAN’S NEW HELLCAT BODY WAS READY FOR RACE DAY, BUT IT ENDED IN ROUND ONE

 

During Q4 at the Mile-High Nationals Saturday night, world champion driver Matt Hagan put his 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody nitro Funny Car to the test.

Hagan, who debuted the new Widebody at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo., this weekend, went up in smoke right at the hit and coasted to the finish line in 13.239 seconds at 76.54 mph. Hagan did click it off, but before he did, some damage was done to his new Widebody.

THORNE, FRANKLIN, MONTECALVO CLEAN SWEEP PDRA NORTHERN NATS

 

The No. 1 qualifiers in all three professional classes parlayed their qualifying success into event victories Saturday evening at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Northern Nationals presented by Callies Performance at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio. Kris Thorne (Moroso Pro Boost), Tommy Franklin (Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous) and John Montecalvo (Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock) left the northern Ohio facility with trophies. 

WORLD CHAMPION MATT SMITH EXPRESSES FRUSTRATION OVER NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON BODIES

The Mile-High Nationals have been good to reigning NHRA Mello Yello Series Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Matt Smith.

Smith has left a champion at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo. in 2007 and 2008. He also was a runner-up at the event in 2017.
