RIVENBARK, BRUDER EMERGE VICTORIOUS IN SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST SWEET 16 2.0 EVENT

Winning a Sweet 16 Drag Radial event demands as much physical toughness as it does driving skill.

On Saturday, two drivers executed superior examples of both.

Kevin Rivenbark lasted through 11 qualifying sessions and won four rounds of competition to pocket $101,000 in winning Radial vs. The World at the Sweet 16 2.0.

DUCK X EVENTS ARE A FAMILY AFFAIR

Despite employing some decidedly aggressive marketing and promotional techniques, Donald "Duck" Long has also worked hard to make his Duck X Productions events at South Georgia Motorsports Park welcoming and friendly affairs.

A big part of that has come through providing breakfast, lunch and dinner to thousands of Duck X competitors and sponsors over the years, led by the tireless efforts of his mother, Nancy, and father, Donald Sr. Since 2014, after Long met wife Stephanie, their contributions have been bolstered by those of her parents, Lona and Steve Sapp.

GOSS GOES TO TOP OF SWEET 16 X275 QUALIFYING

After completely rebuilding his ProCharger-equipped 2009 Dodge Challenger throughout the off season, Rob Goss proved the effort worthwhile with an outstanding 4.237-seconds pass at 169.40 mph in the eighth and final round of X275 qualifying Friday night for Sweet 16 at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

They are flying at the $101,000-winner-take-all Sweet 16, where the quickest Radial vs. The World field in history is led by Daniel Pharris and his ProCharger-boosted 2017 Mustang.

BIRT BLASTS ALL-TIME QUICKEST NITROUS PASS

Even Marcus Birt was surprised when told he'd just made the quickest nitrous-boosted, eighth-mile pass in history--bar none. The 3.604 at 204.76-mph pass came in Saturday's first Radials vs. The World qualifying session, the sixth of 11 total pre-elimination rounds for promoter Donald "Duck" Long's Sweet 16 event at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

VERSATILITY SUITS LAUGHLIN, BUT FOR HOW LONG?

Just last month Alex Laughlin left South Georgia Motorsports Park  $50,000 richer after winning Radial vs. The World at Lights Out 10  with his screw-blown Speed Society C7 Corvette.

Last weekend he was in Gainesville, FL, double-entered in the 50th annual NHRA Gatornationals with a roots-blown 2018 Camaro in Pro Modified and a naturally aspirated '14 Camaro in Pro Stock, reaching the final round in the latter class, though a dropped valve during his burnout for the final ended his chances.

RIVENBARK BLASTS INTO THE 3.50S AT SWEET 16

Steve Petty had a dream and on Thursday night at South Georgia Motorsports Park it (almost) came true.

"I actually dreamed last week that we ran a .58 with a 6 and it went .58 with a 7," crew chief Petty remarked after his driver, Kevin Rivenbark, became the first to the .50s with a 3.587-seconds pass at 206.67 mph over the eighth mile at South Georgia Motorsports Park. The 60-foot time was .917 and Rivenbark ran 2.39 seconds to half track.

IT'S THE REGIMENTED, CHAOS-FILLED LIFE OF THE DUCK'S BOSS

The scene looked every bit like an elementary school teacher taking control of a rowdy playground.

She commenced to screaming orders, pointing fingers and pushing along quickly confirming individuals. However, this wasn't school property, and these weren't intimidated students falling in line.

These were grown men, some tatted up with an image of a pit bull. Some standing with gold chains, muscles and the appearance of taking no crap off of anyone. Except, this time they fell in line.

INCIDENT AT SWEET 16 2.0 EVENT SENDS DRIVER TO HOSPITAL

Radial vs. The World racer Tony Swain was transported to Valdosta General Hospital following an accident during the Q-4 session of the Sweet 16 2.0 event at South Georgia Motorsports Park located outside of Valdosta, Ga.
