TRAGEDY STRIKES DRAG RACING FAMILY

ALAMO CITY MOTORPLEX BECOMES NHRA MEMBER TRACK

 

Alamo City Motorplex, located in Marion, Texas, just east of San Antonio, has joined the NHRA Member Track Network in Division 4, the South Central Division. 

Opened in 1999, Alamo City Motorplex (formerly San Antonio Raceway) will become a valued addition to the NHRA South Central Division. They will host several new and exciting NHRA programs for 2019 and beyond.  

Alamo City Motorplex has been purchased by Essie Mianabi. Madyson Ayesh will oversee the day-to-day operations as the track’s general manager. Ayesh previously served as the track manager for Kansas International Dragway.

MODERN RACING NAMED PRESENTING SPONSOR OF PDRA MID-ATLANTIC SHOWDOWN

 
Modern Racing, a one-stop-shop for motorsports electronics, wiring and fabrication services, has been named the presenting sponsor of the second race on the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) 2019 tour. The PDRA Mid-Atlantic Showdown presented by Modern Racing will take over Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Va., May 2-4. 
 
“We’re elated to have Modern Racing, one of our biggest midway vendors, sign on as the presenting sponsor of the Mid-Atlantic Showdown,” said Will Smith, marketing director, PDRA. “Modern Racing and founder Justin Elkes have been a part of the PDRA community since our early days, and we’re honored to have them continue their involvement in this expanded role.”

Billy Torrence can still vividly recall the first time he ever sat in a Top Fuel dragster. 

It was a warm afternoon nearly six years ago. Billy’s son, Steve Torrence, had been driving in the class for nearly a decade and had even earned a couple of Wallys up to that point. Steve was the star. He was the risk taker who had shaken hands with fate and decided to dance with the big boys in the class of kings.

Billy Torrence, up to that point in his life, was perfectly fine on the sidelines. Yet here he was.

SOUTHEAST GASSERS SET FOR DISCOVERY CHANNEL BROADCAST WED, FEB. 27

 

 

For years past Pro Modified champion turned Gasser perfectionist Quain Stott has sought to make his brand of period correct racing a household name in drag racing. It appears as if the headstrong Stott is well on his way.

On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 10 PM, EST, the Southeast Gassers Association will be featured in a one-hour episode of Moonshiners: Full Throttle Throwdown on the Discovery Channel.

Stott said he will tune in on Wednesday for the first time with what he hopes will be a large audience who shares the passion for this style of old school racing.

BECKMAN SUFFERS ENGINE EXPLOSION WHILE TESTING

 

Half of a Funny Car body sat alongside the retaining wall at Wild Horse Motorsports Park on Monday afternoon during a test session.

The damaged shell belonged to the Jack Beckman-driven, Infinite Hero Funny Car team. It was the second body a Don Schumacher Racing team had destroyed in as many days. Teammate Tommy Johnson Jr. destroyed a new Hellcat body during Sunday's first round of eliminations.

SEMA SEEKS YOUNG VEHICLE BUILDERS AT TX2K19 HOUSTON EVENT

The nationwide search for aspiring, up-and-coming young vehicle builders kicks off March 16, 2019, as the SEMA Youngs Guns Regional Program takes place at TX2K19 at Houston Raceway Park, just outside of Houston, Texas.

As the first event in the 2019 SEMA Young Guns Regional Program, TX2K19 will feature 10 builders age 27 or younger competing for a chance to participate in the 2019 SEMA Battle of the Builders competition and showcase their vehicle at the world-renown SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada

The 2018 Pro Stock NHRA Mello Yello Series season was one of revival for Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Coughlin, a five-time Pro Stock world champion, his last coming in 2013, won three races last season and was runner-up twice in his Jegs.com/Elite Performance Chevy Camaro. He finished second in the world standings behind Tanner Gray, who has left the NHRA ranks to pursue a NASCAR career.
