A DIVERSE MENU OF HORSEPOWER INSPIRES LAUGHLIN

As the sun peaked over the horizon, the daylight revealed a South Georgia Motorsports Park facility that put through the wringer for the last five days, but still had plenty of gas left in its tank.

Multi-faceted drag racer Alex Laughlin can relate.

Laughlin hopes his challenges encountered on the first day of the marathon Lights Out 10 drag radial event remain in the past. The licensed NHRA Pro Stock, Pro Modified, Top Alcohol Dragster and this weekend Radial vs. The World driver made his way down to the four cars in the $50,000-to-win marquee event.

NHRA NITRO TEAMS TALK ABOUT THE RISING COST OF NITROMETHANE

Competing in NHRA’s Mello Yello Series in Top Fuel and nitro Funny Car takes millions of dollars.

With the cost of racing on the rise each year, this season racers are also paying the price for the sanctioning body’s determination to stick with a single distributor of the lifeblood of professional drag racing, nitromethane.

At the end of the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Series season it cost $1,195 for a 42-gallon drum of nitromethane.

LOST: MIDDLE OF REAR WING FROM TOP FUEL DRAGSTER

Steve Torrence and the two-car Capco Contractors Dragster team don’t have an NHRA Lost and Found Department they can go to. So they took to Facebook this week.

The center element, or panel, of Billy Torrence’s rear wing somehow broke loose from his dragster last Saturday during the third of four qualifying sessions for the Lucas Oil Winternationals at Pomona, Calif. It flew away, and the team is seeking help in recovering it.

The much publicized and very much anticipated grudge match between "Stevie Fast" Jackson and Keith "You Know My Name" Haney went down as the first pairing of second-round Radials vs. the World on Thursday night at Lights Out 10. It ended with Haney adding another layer of name recognition.

"You know, he's a great competitor with me; I think we bring out the best in each other and it's something that the fans love," Haney said after going 3.85 at 195.76 to beat Jackson's 4.01 at 181.94-mph effort. "I mean, I heard the crowd was going crazy while we were staging because everybody bet on Stevie winning, but guess what? My fans got paid!"
