Rick Hord won the annual Pro Mod Shootout exhibition race. He earned top qualifier honors with ease. Winning the class finals of the 14th running of the Nitrous Outlet Street Car Super Nationals Presented by FuelTech seemed a foregone conclusion. However, things at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway rarely go as forecasted this time of year as Ed Thornton, who qualified second in Precision Turbo Pro Mod, took the victory in a solo pass.
 
Hord, who had a bye run in the semifinals, had suffered engine damage and was only able to stage and break the starting line beams to advance to the finals. The Florida native was unable to answer the call to the finals, effectively handing the victory to Thornton, who provided the fans with a show by rocketing to the win with a lap of 5.543 seconds at 274.61 mph. Hord was the polesitter thanks to an official pass of 5.587 seconds despite laying down a 5.52 during his Pro Mod Shootout run. Thornton had the fastest car on the property by a lot, his qualifying speed a 270 mph pass.

Investigators from Highlands County where Sebring International Raceway is located have narrowed down a cause of death for jet-car racer Katarina Moller killed Thursday evening from injuries sustained while making an exhibition pass.

According to a reported published by www.abcactionnews.com, Moller was scheduled to make two passes, but during the first, her car drifted left towards the centerline striking the timing equipment. Her parachute deployed but the car drifted right, making contact with the retaining wall before coming to a stop, essentially a low-speed impact with a tire-barrier near turn-one at the facility.

In his first-ever appearance at the Nitrous Outlet Street Car Super Nationals Presented by FuelTech, Arkansas native Brad Medlock drove his 2013 Mustang to the top of the ladder in the Vortech Outlaw 8.5 class Saturday with a pass of 4.593 seconds at 162.22 mph. In Round 1 of eliminations Saturday night at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Medlock slowly meandered down the track thanks to a single-car pass made when his opponent was unable to make the call.
 
“Come out working pretty good and just switched over to alcohol, trying to keep things under wrap with that and try not to get too aggressive, too quick,” Medlock said. “Especially with the air change here, it's so much different than what we're used to running. So far, so good."

With the sun down and the temps growing cooler, Rick Hord continued his march to the Precision Turbo Pro Mod top qualifier Friday at the Nitro Outlet Street Car Super Nationals 14 Presented by FuelTech. The Florida native used his last pass to drop a lap of 5.587 seconds at 263.25 mph. Nipping at his heels at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is Ed Thornton, whose 5.613-second run put him solidly in second, but it was his 270.10 mph speed providing fair warning to Hord that starting P1 Sunday isn’t a given.
