MILLICAN, JOHNSON JR., COUGHLIN JR. AND KRAWIEC NO. 1 QUALIFIERS AT NHRA FALLNATIONALS

Clay Millican piloted his Top Fuel dragster to the No. 1 spot to clinch his ninth No. 1 qualifier of the season at the 33rd annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex.

Tommy Johnson Jr. (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the third of six playoff events during the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

FRIGO RACES TO NO. 1 QUALIFYING POSITION IN PRO MOD AT NHRA FALLNATIONALS

Sideni Frigo clinched the No. 1 qualifying position Saturday evening after three rounds of qualifying due to rain at the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service potion of the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, presented by Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet, is the 10th of 12 races this season.

Frigo powered his ’69 Chevrolet Camaro to a 5.779-second pass at 256.50 mph to take the lead during the third round of qualifying. This is his first No. 1 qualifier of the season, and third of his career as his chases his first victory of the season. He will face Danny Rowe when eliminations begin on Sunday.

MUSI'S QUICKEST-EVER PN PASS HEADLINES PDRA QUALIFYING

 

Pro Nitrous star Lizzy Musi recorded the fastest pass in class history Friday night at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Fall Nationals at Darlington Dragway. Musi drove the Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” ’16 Dodge Dart to a 3.677-second pass at 207.28 mph to qualify No. 1 in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC.

Drag 965 Pro Extreme Motorcycle low qualifier Terry Schweigert obliterated both ends of the PXM record with his 3.914-second blast at 184.58 aboard a new turbocharged motorcycle.

TOMMY JOHNSON JR. LEADS FUNNY CAR QUALIFYING AFTER FIRST DAY AT DALLAS

Winning an NHRA nitro Funny Car world championship is a difficult task, to say the least.

Veteran driver Tommy Johnson Jr. is trying to make a late push to capture the elusive and highly coveted crown.

MILLICAN IS PROVISIONAL TOP FUEL LEADER AT DALLAS

Say this for Clay Millican, he’s not going down this season without a fight to win his first NHRA Top Fuel world title.

Millican, who pilots the Parts Plus/Great Clips dragster, entered the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals near Dallas second in, 70 behind Steve Torrence.

ROBERT HIGHT MEDICAL UPDATE

 

Funny Car points leader Robert Hight underwent surgery on Wednesday, September 26th for a left clavicle open reduction and internal fixation. He was seen again by George Hatch of Keck Medical Center of USC's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery on Thursday, October 4th for an examination of his left shoulder and clavicle and was released to unrestricted activities. He was cleared to compete in all racing activities effective October 4th.

DRAG RACING LEGEND JIMMY KING PASSES

 

Drag racing has lost another legend.

Veteran nitro racer Jimmy King died on Monday October 1, 2018. He was 81 years old.

King, most notably known for his partnership with Don Marshall, was considered to be one of the toughest drag racers to come out of the New England area. He drove a number of cars starting in the mid-1950s before stepping up to a Buick-powered ’46 Chevy gasser and then a blown gas, Chassis Research K-88 chassised dragster with partner Lee Tatroe.

BYRON DRAGWAY'S POWER WHEELSTAND CHAMPIONSHIP CANCELLED

With substantial rainfall and thunderstorms forecast by the National Weather Service through the weekend, the 24th Annual World Power Wheel Standing Championships scheduled for October 6-7, have been cancelled.

After carefully monitoring weather forecasts, Byron Dragway track officials determined that the forecast continues to trend in an unfavorable direction to complete any of the scheduled racing.
