Just one week removed from securing his career-first NMCA race title, Rob Goss made the long trip from his home in Wyoming pay off again Sep. 30, with his first Duck X Productions victory at No Mercy 9 in Valdosta, GA.  

Goss won pretty much every way possible at No Mercy 9--come from behind, holeshot, stripe-to-stripe--but the one that really counted came in the X275 final when he overcame an early lead by number-one qualifier Shane Fisher.

 
A heat wave is coming to Darlington Dragway this weekend, as the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Fall Nationals promises an action-packed weekend of eighth-mile drag racing at the series’ seventh stop on its eight-race 2018 tour. 
 
The Fall Nationals is a crucial race for drivers making a late-season bid for the 2018 PDRA world championships. The class with the tightest championship points battle is Moroso Pro Boost, where Pro Modified veteran Tommy D’Aprile holds a 15-point lead over Pro Boost rookie Chuck Ulsch.

Like many of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series drivers, the Force sisters will go pink for October in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness month. They’ll be sporting pink Advance Auto Parts hot rods at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals and the NHRA Carolina Nationals. Unlike the other drivers, their hot rods will feature TrueTimber’s Sassy B pink camo making a statement while expressing support of breast cancer awareness.

“Fall racing is in full swing, and we’re excited to team up with Courtney and Brittany Force to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month on the track,” said TrueTimber CEO Rusty Sellars. “During the October NHRA drag races in Dallas and Charlotte, race-goers will see both drivers’ cars and crews decked out in pink in our TrueTimber Sassy B camouflage pattern. With heavy rain putting an early stop to all on-track action for the second-straight night, only the premier Radial vs. the World class managed to complete two rounds of eliminations for promoter Donald "Duck" Long's No Mercy 9 at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

Though six of the eight entries remaining on the ladder qualified in the top half of the 32-car RvW field, several pre-race favorites are already loaded up and heading home.

When Alex Laughlin decided he was going to venture into the volatile world of Radial vs. The World competition it made perfect sense to retain a Madman to call the shots. 

Not only has Laughlin found a tuner capable of making him go quick and fast, but also has a penchant for being entertaining as well.

Friday afternoon during Outlaw 632 qualifying, Larosa Plymouth Duster went skyward, groundward and aroundward in one of the more stunning displays of driving ever seen in Drag Radial competition.

Earlier this week, media outlets revealed that Matt Smith, the NHRA Pro Stock Mortorcycle world champion in 2007 and 2013, will compete in a limited Pro Stock schedule in 2019 while also continuing to campaign his Pro Stock bike.

Smith, who is presently racing the Elite Performance/Stockseth EBR entry in the Pro Stock Motorcycle ranks, discussed his transition with CompetitionPlus.com.

Racing against the three-man Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson team of Eddie Krawiec, Andrew Hines and Chip Ellis is a welcome challenge for Jerry Savoie in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship.

Savoie just thinks it doesn’t make good business sense to have three Harley-Davidsons competing.

A Pro Stock promises to have a different landscape in 2019. 

As far as Alex Laughlin is concerned, the grass will be just as green on his side as ever. 

Laughlin plans to maintain the same schedule next season as in 2018, with a possible venture over into Pro Modified. 

For the first time in nearly three years, veteran Top Fuel pilot Cory McClenathan will compete in an NHRA event.

Cory Mac, as he is known, is slated to drive for owner/tuner Dexter Tuttle in the AAATexas FallNationals at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Oct. 4-7.

“This was a last-second deal,” McClenathan said. “Our last Nitro Outlaw Association race is Oct. 13 at the Texas Motorplex. So, Dexter called me and said ‘You know what we could use a test session, and we can go out and try and get it qualified on 80 (percent nitro, which is the Nitro Outlaw rule). If we need to adjust a little bit to try and make it quicker because now there are 20 cars entered, we will. We have our work cut out for us. We are the small dog out on the porch and all the big dogs are out in front of us.
