HONORING THE MONGOOSE'S GREATEST WIN OF HIS LIFE

Pat Galvin wasn't long having turned 22 years old when he experienced the most magical moment of his drag racing career and for the seasoned veteran crewmember, such a statement says a lot.

Galvin was the crew chief of record when McEwen beat Don Prudhomme in one of the more storied finishes in the history of the sport, forty years ago at the 1978 NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

McEwen had just lost his son Jamie to Leukemia, and racing the weekend was the kind of therapy he needed following such a tragic loss. On paper, the challenge looked monumental and nearly impossible.

INJURY DOES LITTLE TO SLOW TONY SCHUMACHER

Mercifully, Tony Schumacher moved his foot.

“I threw a dart the other day. And if I didn’t move my toe, the dart would have landed on it. It went exactly to the end of my foot. There’s just no forward motion,” he said of his strength and mobility in his right arm at the moment.

Because of bothersome ligament / muscle / nerve pain and swelling that has lingered since July, Tony Schumacher has his right arm in a brace. He said the condition is “the same,” but it hasn’t stopped him from signing likely more autographs than any other driver. Physical therapy and electronic stimulation haven’t eased the pain yet, but he said, “I’ll work on it next week.” Schumacher said he thinks the problem came from a change in his workout and weightlifting routine.

PRITCHETT TO RUN ANGRY BEE DRAGSTER SCHEME IN READING

The “Bee” is back, and just in time for the Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, located near Reading, Pennsylvania. NHRA Top Fuel driver Leah Pritchett’s dragster will once again feature special “Angry Bee” graphics, a callout to the new Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320, at her sponsor’s title event on September 13-16, 2018.

This season marks the third with Dodge as title sponsor of the Dodge NHRA Nationals. The brand also served as primary sponsor of the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver and the NHRA Dodge HEMI® Challenge in Indianapolis earlier this year.

HAGAN APPRECIATES HIS TIME WITH FANS

To this day, Matt Hagan remembers what it was like when he first began racing.

In those early years, when he was just a youngster trying to make a name for himself alongside the kings of the sport, Hagan couldn’t give his autograph away. No one was stopping by his pits. He was a nobody. And he remembers what that was like.

'JAILBREAK' ROCKS ARDMORE DRAGWAY REUNION

The Outlaw Fuel Altered Association charged into Ardmore Dragway on Saturday, September 1st to headline their 13th Annual Reunion event on a hot late Summer afternoon in southern Oklahoma. Fresh and ready to put on a show, this marked the first OFAA points race since late May after back to back rain outs in June and July.

With a points battle brewing between the top five in the Good Vibrations Motorsports / Lone Star Forklift points chase, the pressure was on as the remaining four events will prove critical to those in the hunt for the title.

FOR DSR TEAM MEMBER, RILEY TRIBUTE MEANS THE WORLD

Malcolm Clark found it hard to contain his enthusiasm on Sunday afternoon. Sure, the full-time chef for Don Schumacher Racing enjoys seeing the team's driver go rounds but in particular, one car kept him doing fist-pumps in the humidity-filled, Indianapolis heat.

Clark was partial to one DSR car racing at the Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals, the Dodge Charger bearing the livery of the Riley Hospital for Children and driven by Tommy Johnson Jr.

TODD GOES BACK-TO-BACK AT U.S. NATIONALS

Back-to-back wins.

The list of drivers who have accomplished that feat at the U.S. Nationals is short, but impressive. Among them are names such as Don Prudhomme, Don Garlits and Ed McCulloch.

HOOSIER McMILLEN WINS U.S. NATIONALS TOP FUEL TITLE AT INDIANAPOLIS

During pre-race ceremonies Monday at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, CompetitionPlus.com presented Top Fuel owner-driver Terry McMillen the 2018 Mike Aiello “Spirit of Drag Racing” Award. That was a surprise.

Advancing to the final round at the Labor Day classic at Lucas Oil Raceway was not a surprise. Nor was winning the showdown against Doug Kalitta. After all, this was McMillen’s fifth final round of the season in the Amalie Oil Dragster.

AFTER SEVEN-YEAR ABSENCE TONGLET RETURNS TO INDY WINNER'S CIRCLE

LE Tonglet rode like a champion Monday and returned to the prestigious U.S. Nationals winner’s circle at Indianapolis.

The veteran Pro Stock Motorcycle rider, who pilots a Nitro Fish-sponsored Suzuki, upended reigning world champion and defending Indy champ Eddie Krawiec in the finals at Lucas Oil Raceway.
