BO BUTNER TALKS ABOUT HIS HEALTH SCARE

 

Reigning NHRA Pro Stock world champion Bo Butner was on his way home from the Epping, N.H., race July 9 when he had a health scare.

“I drove for a long time, a long period without getting up and moving around. I was coming back from New Hampshire and I drove 11 hours straight without standing up,” Butner said. “I was in my bus. When I stood up, I had like a dizzy spell, so luckily, I was stopped right across the street from the hospital in Florence, Ky. I was almost home in Floyds Knobs, Ind. It worked out for me there because I didn’t know where I was at, and I walked to the hospital.

Veteran NHRA Pro Stock racer Larry Morgan had plenty of success during his driving career.

These days, Morgan is building Pro Stock Motorcycle engines for Team Liberty with drivers world champion Angelle Sampey and Cory Reed.

NHRA RELEASES 24-RACE MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES SCHEDULE FOR 2019 SEASON

NHRA officials announced the 24-race 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, which will again feature intense racing action at tracks across the country. Millions of fans will experience sensory-overload at its best with side-by-side racing action where victories may be determined by mere thousandths of a second.

A special highlight on the 2019 tour will be the 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Florida’s Gainesville Raceway March 14-17. To commemorate this momentous occasion, some of NHRA’s most beloved figures will come together to celebrate, marking the culmination of the yearlong NHRA Legends Tour. Never before have so many NHRA Legends been gathered in one place. This is a “can’t miss” event for any devoted NHRA fan.

JIM DUNN RACING FLYING LESCURE COLORS IN SONOMA

Lescure Company, based in Concord, California, brings neighboring sponsorship to the Jim Dunn Racing Oberto Funny Car team during this weekend’s NHRA national event at Sonoma Raceway.  Mechanical systems specialists, Lescure provides project assistance from concept all the way through to construction and management services.  The business has been around for 71 years, and involved in drag racing for a third of that time.

ARANA SR. STILL SMILING OVER FIRST 200 MPH PSM RUN

 

At the 2018 season-opening Pro Stock Motorcycle race, Hector Arana Jr. made history.

Arana Jr., on his Erik Buell Racing motorcycle sponsored by Lucas Oil Racing TV, broke the elusive 200-mph barrier with his 200.23 mph run in qualifying March 16 at the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.

With the run, Arana Jr. claims the $10,000 bonus for becoming the first rider to join the DENSO Spark Plugs 200 MPH Club.

TORRENCE CREW CHIEF RICHARD HOGAN SIDELINED IN DENVER

 

Point leader Steve Torrence didn't have a stellar weekend in Denver.

Not only did he lose to Blake Alexander in the second round of the Dodge Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, he was forced to race without crew chief Richard Hogan for the first time in more than four years.

FRANKIE TAYLOR CLOSES AUSTRALIAN TOUR WITH A VICTORY

 

Frankie "Madman" Taylor, the veteran doorslammer driver who filled in for the sidelined Victor Bray, finished his 400 Thunder tour in Australia the same way he started it, with a resounding victory.

It was November of 2017 when Taylor joined Team Bray Racing [TBR] to undertake his first race event in Australia, the Texan – formerly the world’s quickest and fastest blown Doorslammer driver over the quarter mile – took on and defeated now-champion Paul Mouhayet in Sydney.

In his view, the excitement level approaching the DRAG ILLUSTRATED World Series of Pro Mod, which takes place Aug. 10-11 on Thunder Mountain, is already approaching impressive territory.
 
“It’s definitely the talk of the town around here, there’s no question,” Johanns said. “It’s the talk of the town and I think it will remain that way.”
