DON “THE SNAKE” PRUDHOMME CONQUERS DESERT AFTER 50 YEARS; FINISHES MEXICAN 1000

After a 50 year delay drag racing legend Don “The Snake” Prudhomme found his redemption in the desert finishing the grueling five day Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 presented by Method Race Wheels. The four-time NHRA Funny Car champion and drag racing legend along with co-driver Canadian Shane Chatwell drove his JEGS  2018 Polaris RZR 1000 prepped by P.J. Jones of PJ’s Performance in Scottsdale, Ariz., to a tenth place finish in the Stock Turbo UTV class of the off-road rally run by the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA.

“It was a hell of a run I can tell you that,” said an exhausted but satisfied Prudhomme after the race. “It was a thousand miles worth of trails, dirt roads, rocks, boulders and massive dust clouds. You name it we saw it in the desert. It was unbelievable. Just to make it to the finish line is an achievement. It was just a hell of an experience and I can’t even really put it into words how tough it was.”

THE ACE BELIEVES LESS TRACTION IS A START TO FIXING NITRO

Matt Hagan didn't mince words.

The burly Funny Car driver expressed his disdain for the NHRA's new policy of putting less traction compound in the latter part of the drag strip.

Hagan took his message to Twitter by posting, "I'll say it cause no one else will say it. @NHRA should be embarrassed for the show we put on in charlotte. I'm very sorry to all our fans that payed (sic) to see that. @NHRA has changed track prep to slow the cars down and the end result is tire smoke, explosions and a poor show!!"

Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Matt Smith couldn't believe his ears. Woken from a slumber early Friday morning while in his motorhome at zMAX Dragway, wife Angie was telling him his bike was gone, driven off the track property while housed in a trailer. And, no, it wasn't a dream.

"Angie wakes me up about 5 o'clock in the morning and she goes, 'Joe's truck's gone,'" Smith said Saturday night, referring to partner Joe Riccardi. "I said, 'You're screwing with me.' She goes, 'No, I'm serious.' I got up, I looked out the window and I saw Jerry (Savoie's) trailer."

PM RACER RICK HORD OPENS UP ABOUT NHRA RUN DQ

Veteran drag racer Rick Hord remains confident a difference of opinion between him and the NHRA's tech department will be resolved in the coming weeks.

Hord, a longtime NHRA sportsman racer who graduated into the volatile Pro Modified division, posted a career-best run during Friday's Q2 session at the NGK NHRA Four-Wide Nationals,  a 5.711 elapsed time at 260.91 miles per hour.

Hord's pass was the sixth quickest elapsed time in the history of the series and the fastest speed ever since the Pro Modified cars became an official series in 2010.
