“PRO MODS AT THE PARK” COMING TO VIRGINIA MOTORSPORTS PARK

More Pro Mod racing is coming to Virginia Motorsports Park with the addition of  “Pro Mods at the Park,” the track announced. “Pro Mods at the Park” will take place during two major events during the 2018 race season, adding another thrilling element to a pair of exciting, family-friendly weekends.

The first “Pro Mods at the Park” will take place May 18-20 in conjunction with the Menards Chevy Show, adding Pro Mod racing action to the already popular car show and swap meet at the weekend event. The second “Pro Mods at the Park” will take place on Aug. 18 as part of VMP’s “Extreme Night of Fire” that will include jet cars, jet trucks and, now, Pro Mods.

DESPITE THIRD FOUR-WIDE VICTORY, TOP FUEL’S TORRENCE DOWNPLAYS YEAR’S SUCCESS

Top Fuel ace Steve Torrence has left no doubt that he never has cared for four-wide drag racing.

And Torrence left no doubt Sunday at the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at Concord, N.C., that despite his disdain for it, he has been completely in control with the novelty format.

PEDREGON ENDS 92-EVENT WINLESS STREAK WITH FOUR-WIDE VICTORY

Cruz Pedregon might have been frustrated at times over the past four years but the two-time NHRA Funny Car world champion never gave up and his perseverance paid off Sunday when he and the Snap-on Tools Toyota Camry team won the NGK Spark Plugs Four-Wide NHRA National.

Pedregon’s last trip to a Mello Yello Drag Racing Series winner’s circle was at Englishtown, New Jersey, in the ninth event of the 2014 season.

SAVOIE’S BIKE COMES AROUND AT BEST TIME, IN FINAL ROUND

 

Pro Stock Motorcycle No. 1 qualifier L.E. Tonglet said Saturday that teammate and White Alligator Racing boss Jerry Savoie had a Suzuki that was “coming around.”

It came around at the perfect time, giving the alligator farmer from Cut Off, La., his ninth NHRA victory Sunday at the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at Concord, N.C.

FOUR-WIDE FIRST: ERICA ENDERS FINALLY GETS IT DONE

Erica Enders is back.

The two-time Pro Stock champion – and her Elite Motorsports team – put on a dominant performance Sunday to win the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. She broke a 20-race winless streak, dating back to Epping, N.H., last June.

Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Jerry Savoie (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also winners in their respective categories at the sixth event on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

GONZALEZ LOCKS DOWN FIRST CAREER PRO MOD VICTORY AT FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

One week after earning the first No. 1 qualifier of his career in Houston, Jose Gonzalez notched his first career victory in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service portion of the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, presented by Al-Anabi Performance, was the third of 12 events this season.

Gonzalez ran a 5.743-second pass at 254.09 mph in his Chevrolet Q80 Camaro to take down Steve Jackson, Rickie Smith and Brandon Snider in the final round. Gonzalez became the first Domincan-born driver to earn a victory at an NHRA national event with his triumph in Charlotte.

TONGLET JUMPS TO TOP QUALIFYING SPOT IN PRO STOCK BIKE FIELD

Pro Stock Motorcycle racer L.E. Tonglet is a man of his word.

He said after he double-clutched in Friday night’s final qualifying chance for the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals and – in his words – “blew the whole run,” he apologized to crew chief Tim Kulungian.
