NO. 1 PRO STOCK STARTER SKILLMAN SEEKING FIRST FOUR-WIDE TRIUMPH

Drew Skillman, driving his family-owned Ray Skillman Chevrolet Camaro, held onto the Pro Stock lead he established Friday night to claim his first top-qualifying position of the season, sixth overall, and first on the quarter-mile at zMAX Dragway.

With his 6.534-second elapsed time, he’ll head the 16-car NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals field Sunday at Concord, N.C.

ALBALOOSHI RETAINS PRO MOD NO. 1 QUALIFYING POSITION AT CHARLOTTE

Khalid AlBalooshi was able to retain the No. 1 qualifying position for the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service portion of the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, presented by Al-Anabi Performance, is the third of 12 events this season.

During qualifying on Friday AlBalooshi powered his ’18 Camaro raced to the No. 1 qualifying position with a pass of 5.729-seconds at 251.95 mph. This is his fifth top position of his career and his first since the second Charlotte event in 2015.

C. FORCE, B. FORCE, SKILLMAN AND TONGLET RACE TO NO. 1 POSITIONS AT NHRA FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

The final day of qualifying for the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals concluded on Saturday afternoon. Funny Car racer Courtney Force along with her sister Brittany in Top Fuel, retained their No. 1 qualifying positions from Friday at zMAX Dragway.

Drew Skillman (Pro Stock) and LE Tonglet (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the sixth of 24 events on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

COURTNEY FORCE GOING FOR THIRD NO. 1 FUNNY CAR START IN SIX RACES

 

True to her form this season, Courtney Force has her Advance Auto Parts / CarQuest Chevy Camaro at the top of the Funny Car order.

She didn’t top her year-old zMAX Dragway elapsed-time record of 3.851 seconds Friday during qualifying for the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at Concord, N.C., but Force grabbed the provisional No. 1 qualifying position.

Brittany Force, skittish earlier this year about getting back in her Monster Energy Dragster following a nasty crash at the season-opener, had to psych herself up to get back into the 10,000-horsepower, nitromethane-burning car.

Now the reigning Top Fuel champion and winner of the most recent Mello Yello Drag Racing Series race hardly wants to get out of it.

B. FORCE, C. FORCE, SKILLMAN AND REED LEAD QUALIFYING FRIDAY AT NGK FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

Fans in attendance at the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals witnessed two sisters take the preliminary top spots in their respective categories. Top Fuel pilot Brittany Force and Funny Car racer Courtney Force, are qualifying leaders after the first day of action at zMAX Dragway.

Drew Skillman (Pro Stock) and Cory Reed (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the sixth of 24 events on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

CRAMPTON WOULDN'T MIND A SHOT IN A FUNNY CAR

 

Richie Crampton understands out of the four Kalitta Motorsports drivers, he's truly an outsider in one realm. 

Crampton, an eight-time NHRA Top Fuel winner, has never driven a fuel Funny Car in competition or testing. His Kalitta teammate have.

"I made some runs in an alcohol Funny Car, some years ago," Crampton explained. "I've never have run one with nitro in the tank."

HUNT, PHARRIS AND WHITE TAKE WINS AT MWPMS OUTLAW STREET CAR REUNION

Shortly after taking a two-year break from competition, Jerry Hunt scored his career-first win with the Frankenstein Engine Dynamics Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) as he secured the Pro Mod title Mar. 21, as part of the Holley EFI Outlaw Street Car Reunion V (OSCR). Also notching MWPMS wins at historic Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY, were Daniel Pharris in Radial vs. the World (RvW) and Jimmy White in the X275 drag radial cl.
