It’s not like “Stevie Fast” Jackson goes looking for controversy. Well, actually it is just like that. 

Or more accurately, he welcomes controversy when it inevitably comes around. And as he prepares to take on all comers next weekend (Mar. 22-24) at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Donald Long’s $101,000-to-win Sweet 16 drag radial race, the colorful and outspoken Georgian is ramping up the rhetoric.

“All these people are walking around thinking they can be relevant when they’re not and it’s good to call some folks out every once in a while and get some fans mad at me and get some fans happy with me. Controversy drives the sport, and it’s all fun; it’s good,” Jackson says. “Basically, if you think you’ve got a fast race car and want to lose some money, I’ll race you.

ARANA JR. SNAGS 200 MPH ON MICKEY THOMPSON TIRES

 

Hector Arana, Jr. made history Friday when he reached 200.23 mph during his second qualifying run at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., making him the first Pro Stock Motorcycle rider to top 200 mph. He later improved to a 201.01 mph run on Saturday, resetting the world record.    

Arana, who races on Mickey Thompson ET Drag motorcycle tires, took home $10,000 from Denso Spark Plugs. The company announced the prize money prior to the race on Friday as the Pro Stock Motorcycles prepared to make their 2018 NHRA season debut at the Gatornationals.

TEAM BRAY RACING GOING SOLO IN ADELAIDE

Team Bray Racing will focus all of its efforts on Ben Bray and his Gulf Western Oil-sponsored Pro Slammer at Adelaide International Raceway this weekend.

Bray’s teammate Frankie Taylor is unable to attend the March 23-24 event due to business and racing commitments in his native US, leaving Ben to fly the flag solo for TBR on-track this Friday and Saturday.

MIDWEST NOSTALGIA PRO STOCK ASSOCIATION REVEALS 12-RACE SCHEDULE

 

The Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association LLC recently announced its 12-event 2018 season schedule. 

The season opens with the "Cabin Fever Breakout" on April 21st at Great Lakes Dragaway. Mid-season stops include Wisconsin International Raceway's Summer Nationals on July 21st and Summer Thunder at Byron Dragway on August 4. The season will conclude with Great Lakes' "Nitrous Street Car Brawl" on September 23rd. 

JONES SCORES AT SAN ANTONIO NITRO JAM

 

The 2018 season marks 22 years of Outlaw Fuel Altered racing in the southwest, and San Antonio Raceway hosted the season opener as the OFAA headlined the "Nitro Jam" on Saturday, March 17th. With new drivers, several new paint jobs and riding the momentum from welcoming back presenting sponsors Good Vibrations Motorsports and Lone Star Forklift, the OFAA racers and fans were eager to kick off the new season. With fifteen cars on the property, it was time to fire up the first pair of the new year, which marked the OFAA debut of Rick Grindstaff in the "Quarterflash" blown alcohol entry during the first qualifying session. 

​OF MUMBLING, RULES AND JOHN FORCE

Sixteen-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force doesn't deny he has critics; some of them both on and off the record in the nitro pits.

This week the NHRA announced point penalties for all categories where drivers either strike the timing blocks or cross the centerline. In the nitro divisions, this penalty extends to the quarter-mile mark.

BECKMAN CAPS SUPERB WEEKEND WITH GATORS CELEBRATION

These types of weekends never get old for nitro Funny Car driver Jack Beckman.

Beckman, the 2012 NHRA world champion, qualified No. 1 at the Gatornationals and raced away to the national-event win Sunday.

CRAMPTON WINS FIRST TITLE SINCE 2015 IN UNLIKELY GATORNATIONALS FINAL

 NCAA men’s basketball tournament fans weren’t the only ones who witnessed a bracket-busting win this weekend.

The trend bounced over to the Top Fuel category on Sunday during the 49th annual Amalie NHRA Gatornationals when Richie Crampton, whose last win was in the fall of 2015, defeated part-time racer Shawn Reed for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ Wally Trophy.
