They can't say he didn't give them advance warning of his intentions..

A little under five months ago, Bobby Cottrell, driver of Bucky Austin's AA/FC, stood in the winner's circle and answered questions about his dominating California Hot Rod Reunion victory at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Ca.

"We’re just going to start off strong and go from there," Cottrell said of the 2018 season.

The rain fell early in Bakersfield, but the excitement late more than made up for Mother Nature's meddling at the Good Vibrations 60th March Meet hosted by Auto Club Famoso Raceway.

HANEY: MID-WEST PRO MOD SERIES IS THE PLACE TO BE IN 2018

The Mid-West Pro Mod Series kicks off its 2018 season this weekend at Texas Motorplex in what could be a harbinger of great things.

The Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet North vs. South Frankenstein Mid-West Pro Mod Shootout is the first of eight races on the MWPMS schedule, up from four from its inaugural season a year ago. If car count is any indication, the Mid-West Pro Mod Series is in for a terrific year. At least 30 cars are expected in Ennis, Texas on Friday and Saturday – for a 16-car field. And more cars could show up.

MIKE DUNN RELISHING HIS ROLE IN MARCH MEET PAY-PER-VIEW

There was a time when Mike Dunn found his comfort zone behind the wheel of a nitro-burning race car. These days he's traded in the steering wheel for a microphone.

Dunn, the former ESPN color commentator, will undertake his latest role as the lead commentator for the inaugural Pay-Per-View broadcast of this weekend's Good Vibrations 60th Bakersfield March Meet at Auto Club Famosa Raceway located outside of Bakersfield, Ca. He'll be joined by Chad Reynolds of Bangshift.com, who has brought race fans live streaming of the event for over a decade.

RAY WINS ORLANDO PRO MOD TUNE-UP OVER MOLINARI TO HINT AT WILD SEASON

If Jeremy Ray’s victory over Shane Molinari last weekend at Orlando is any kind of a harbinger for the NHRA’s E3 / J&A Service Pro Modified Series, the already wildly popular class is growing and buzzing like a swarm of bees.

Ray, driving the third car in Jim Whiteley’s operation, claimed the $10,000 winner’s share of the purse Saturday at the Aeromotive Winter Warm-up at Orlando Speed World Dragway.

DSM TO EXPAND PERFORMANCE PARTS DISTRIBUTION TO NHRA SPORTSMAN RANKS

For years, Don Schumacher Motorsports (DSM) has been regarded as a leading parts supplier for teams competing in NHRA’s nitro categories. After spending much of the 2017-2018 off-season ramping up its inventory of products, DSM is now branching out to supply NHRA Sportsman racers in its role as a performance parts distributor.

For NHRA Sportsman competitors who race a Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, DSM and Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) have worked in collaboration with Mopar, SRT and BES Racing Engines to offer a variety of parts and components for the modern-day package car, including aluminum HEMI® engine packages that utilize Mopar blocks and heads as building blocks.

SALINAS AND HIS SCRAPPY TEAM INTEND TO MAKE NOISE

NHRA naysayers were skeptical when Mike Salinas said last year he would campaign his Scrappers Racing Top Fuel team full time in 2018.

Countless others have made that promise, and few have been able to deliver on the pipedream, but Salinas is living up to the commitment.

Many of the other hopeful racers in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series were not Salinas, a highly successful businessman from San Jose in Northern California.
