DEJORIA SAYS BYE IN HER OWN WAY

Now before drawing any conclusions, DeJoria loves her fans. They are, as she describes them, her driving force on her road to Funny car stardom. Today they were a reminder, her days as a nitro superstar were done, at least for now.

Facing them was a tough reminder.

But, she can always use race day as an excuse for her evasiveness. To be honest, she's always been kind of focused on a race day with little interaction.

"Sundays are different. Head down, focus, blinders up. It’s like, you want to win," DeJoria explained. "That’s what all of this preparation and perfection is all about. It’s about that win, you know. You just can’t falter. But if there’s extra time in between, I’ll go out and sign autographs on the ropes and say hi to everybody."

This day, she admits, was a different scenario.

CRASH PREMATURELY ENDS FRIDAY QUALIFYING AT SCSN

Friday action at the Street Car Super Nationals hosted by The Strip at Las Vegas came to a premature end, but not before some divisions managed to get in three full sessions.

During the Q-3 session of Pro Mod qualifying, Scott Loomis' Chevelle was unable to stop at the top end of the drag strip, driving through the sand trap, the netting, and finally, the fence.

Loomis emerged uninjured from the incident. After nearly an hour of repair, track and SCSN officials determined it would take at least two and a half more hours to replace the netting properly. As a result, all on-track activities Friday night were canceled and will resume Saturday morning at 8 AM, PST.

HIGHT TURNS REBUILDING YEAR INTO SURPRISING SECOND CHAMPIONSHIP

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

It was supposed to be the year that Robert Hight, crew chief Jimmy Prock and the entire John Force Racing-backed team put together a solid foundation in an attempt at contending for a Funny Car world title next year.

As it turns out, this team is a little bit ahead of schedule.

Hight capped what can only be described as a dream season Sunday at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with a stunning title win over rival Ron Capps to earn his second NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Funny Car championship in one of the most trying weekends you will ever see for an eventual champion.

MUSI REMINISCES ABOUT STRONG 2017; WITH EYES ON 2018

Count Lizzy Musi as someone who wasn’t ready for the 2017 PDRA season to end.

But an impressive finish, coupled with the overall success of Musi Racing Engines, already has the Pro Nitrous standout anxious for 2018 to begin.

Musi won back-to-back races at GALOT Motorsports Park and Virginia Motorsports Park to close the year in PDRA, finishing third in points and ending the season as the speed record-holder.

Continuing to show rapid improvement behind the wheel of her Dodge Dart, it puts Musi on track for what she hopes will be an even bigger 2018.
