MUSI, MONTECALVO AND MCCOY ROUND OUT WINNERS IN POSTPONED PDRA FINALS

Lizzy Musi and Brad McCoy raced to victory Sunday for the second consecutive race at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park, winning in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC and Drag 965 Pro Extreme Motorcycle, respectively. John Montecalvo won in Extreme Pro Stock during the postponed eliminations.

Pro Extreme low qualifier Terry Leggett earned the event win Saturday night when he defeated world championship runner-up Mattias Wulcan. The Andy McCoy Race Cars Pro Boost event win was awarded to 2017 world champion Jose Gonzales, who was set to face El General Racing teammate Eric Dillard in the final round. Gonzales and Dillard were unable to return for the postponed eliminations Sunday morning.

NFC RACER COTTRELL TOTALLY DOMINATES CHRR

Nostalgia Funny Car driver, and newly christened 7.0 Pro champion Bobby Cottrell couldn't help but wonder.

What if he had a full season under his belt?

Cottrell finished third in the championship points on the strength of a totally dominating AA/FC win at the California Hot Rod Reunion behind the wheel of Bucky Austin's Funny Car beating an upset-minded Matt Bynum in the final round.

RUPERT TESTS THE BOUNDARIES FOR THRILL OF VICTORY, AGONY OF DEFEAT

The look on Jason Rupert's face told the story. His oil soaked-shirt and the molten pieces of aluminum on the rag in his hand provided the gory details.

On this day, Rupert, the six-time AA/FC champion had scored a pyrrhic victory; a victory at too high of a cost.

Rupert ran a 5.654 elapsed time, 248.43, a pass which secured victory at the rain-delayed Heritage Series event from Boise, Idaho, over Ryan Hodgson. The run would also have been second quickest in the field, but because his wounded engine laid oil down on the racing surface, it was disallowed leaving him with no qualifying run despite three consecutive top three performances.

LEGGETT WINS PDRA FINALS PRO EXTREME TITLE

Pro Extreme driver Terry Leggett backed up his No. 1 qualifying effort when he won the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park Saturday night. All other professional-class final rounds and sportsman eliminations were postponed until Sunday morning.

In addition to deciding the Pro Extreme event winner, the PDRA crowned world champions in four of the five professional classes during the completed rounds of elimination.

AA/FA ACCIDENT RESULTS IN DRIVER TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL

AUSTRALIA ALREADY HAS A CRAZY MAN TAYLOR, WHY NOT A MAD MAN TAYLOR?

Frankie "The Mad Man" Taylor, the world’s quickest and fastest blown Doorslammer driver over the quarter-mile, will drive a Pro Slammer for Team Bray Racing and Gulf Western Oil at the upcoming AC Delco East Coast Thunder at Sydney Dragway.

To be held at Sydney Dragway across November 3 and 4, the event will see the Texan drag racing star debut for the team in a driving capacity in a brand-new Corvette.

The race car is a twin-sister of Ben Bray’s own Gulf Western Oil-supported Corvette, and allows Taylor to fill-in for team principal and six-time champion Victor Bray while keeping Victor’s ’57 Chev just for him.

Taylor will arrive on the 26th of October from his home in Texas ready for testing ahead of the November event.

AUSSIE SHANE TUCKER DRIVING FOR GRAY MOTORSPORTS IN VEGAS

Pro Stock standout Shane Tucker announced today that he will be taking the wheel of a Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro next weekend at the 17th annual NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Shane Gray-owned Camaro was last contested at the U.S. Nationals with grandfather Johnny Gray at the helms where it qualified in the top half of the field.

“This deal started when I had an engine issue in Dallas last weekend in the second session,” Tucker explained. “We fixed it for the third session but hurt it again and Shane [Gray] came over and gave us a motor to run for Q4 [final qualifying session]. We didn’t get it in in time but we were able to run in the first round. After Dallas, Shane and I talked and kind of discussed where we were at with our program and I wanted to test before Las Vegas but since we don’t have the chance to test, Shane offered to let me drive one of his cars until we sort our program out. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell.”

LEGGETT, FRANKLIN PACE FIRST DAY PDRA VMP FINALS

A record turnout of nearly 400 cars was on hand for Friday qualifying at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park. Performance records were also set as the all-eighth-mile series completed three professional qualifying sessions.

The provisional No. 1 qualifiers going into Saturday’s final session are Terry Leggett in Pro Extreme, Tommy Franklin in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC, Jose Gonzales in Andy McCoy Race Cars Pro Boost, Cary Goforth in Extreme Pro Stock, and Chris Garner-Jones in Drag 965 Pro Extreme Motorcycle.

COTTRELL, FRY LEAD FIRST DAY QUALIFYING AT CHRR

Bobby Cottrell didn't let the disqualification of his first run during the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion didn't deter him. The driver of the Bucky Austin Chevrolet Camaro had laid by far the quickest run of the opening session with a 5.62, but because he deposited oil on the racing surface the run was thrown out.

No problem for Cottrell who entered the event third in Funny Car points, as he just corked off an even quicker 5.563 elapsed time at 256.06 miles per hour.
