COUGHLIN ADVANCES TO SECOND ROUND OF PRO MOD AT NHRA MIDWEST NATIONALS

Troy Coughlin picked up an important first round win at the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, presented by Real Pro Mod Association, is the 11th of 12 events on the 2017 schedule.

Coughlin raced his JEGS.com Corvette to a 5.752-second pass at 257.33 mph to defeat Rickie Smith in the first round of eliminations. With his win and No. 1 qualifier Mike Castellana’s first round loss to Pete Farber, the battle for the Pro Mod crown will be decided at the J&A Service Series season finale in Las Vegas.

Robert Hight (Funny Car) Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also current No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the third of six playoff events during the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

CASTELLANA LEADS PRO MOD QUALIFYING AT AAA INSURANCE NHRA MIDWEST NATS

Mike Castellana ran the quickest during the first day of qualifying at the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, presented by Real Pro Mod Association, is the 11th of 12 events on the 2017 schedule.

Castellana raced a track elapsed-time record of 5.713-seconds at 253.85 mph in his Al Anabi Racing Chevrolet Camaro during the second round of qualifying.

AUSSIE TOP FUEL GOES ALL-IN FOR 1000-FT DRAG RACING

 

Three years ago, Australia's premiere Top Fuel dragster team owner Santo Rapisarda clamored for his native homeland to adopt nitro racing to 1,000 feet, even going as far as to threaten the parking of his five teams.

His peers didn't see the logic and decided to shelve the project.

A month ago, Rapisardo made his point clear again with little room for debate, saying in as many words that the series could race to 1,320 feet but it would do so without his team.

ROGERS REIGNS AT SAN ANTONIO MWPMS RACE

Rising from a fourth-place qualifying effort of 3.97 seconds over the eighth-mile at San Antonio Raceway this past weekend, Eddie Rogers went on to score his second Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) victory of the season.

Rogers steered his supercharged ’69 Chevelle to a winning 4.04-seconds pass in the final over the blown, late-model Corvette of Jonas Aleshire, who was disqualified for leaving a fraction of a second before the green light flashed.

NHRA COUNTDOWN TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE CHANGE ANNOUNCED FOR 2018

The complexion of the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship will take a new form as four of the national events will change dates for the upcoming season.
 
The Dodge NHRA Nationals will kick off the six-race playoff stretch at historic Maple Grove Raceway on Sept. 13-16. The scenic facility located outside of Philadelphia has long been a hot bed of racing and often produces national record performances
