WORSHAM REMAINS UP FOR THE CHALLENGE

Del Worsham knew the road was going to be a tough one; a journey filled with pot holes, speed bumps and frustrations. And despite it all, he's having the time of his life.

Worsham, a two-time champion in NHRA nitro competition, left the comfort zone of a well-funded Kalitta Motorsports team to return to the family-owned Funny Car and race with his father, Chuck Worsham.

Worsham sits 13th, 49 points out of a tie for the tenth place now held by Cruz Pedregon. He's qualified in all 14 races this season, but round wins have been harder to attain. The Lucas Oil-sponsored driver has only won two rounds, beating Robert Hight in Pomona, and then Tommy Johnson Jr. in Topeka.

RACE WITHIN A RACE COURTESY OF MICKEY THOMPSON TIRES SET FOR SONOMA SATURDAY

Somebody on two wheels is going to leave the NHRA Sonoma Nationals with extra folding money in their pocket on Saturday evening.

Eddie Krawiec hopes it's him.

The multi-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion enters the Mickey Thompson Tires Pro Bike Battle as the No. 1 seed.

Krawiec secured his top seeding following a stellar performance at the recently completed NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationals where he not only qualified No. 1 but also won the event, his second victory of the season.

WILKERSON AND TEAM PULL OFF THE MARATHON SCENARIO

Over the last two seasons, veteran Funny Car racer Tim Wilkerson might not have killed his arsenal of vehicles, but he didn't do it any good either.

Wilkerson, since crashing his new "Jamie" Funny Car last May in Topeka, and returning to his old girl "Bessie," only to crash the repaired Mustang a second time two months later.

Last weekend in Denver, Wilkerson had moments of mayhem as his Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang pulled a massive wheelstand in qualifying which resulted in a bent a-arm. The team prepared and competed on Sunday with a spare chassis and a second wheelstand also damaged this car. They plan to run a third car this weekend in Sonoma.
