DRAG RACING LOST FRIEND AND MENTOR IN JOHN COLLINS DEATH

A mentor, talented driver and exceptional marketer are the words some of those who knew John Collins used to describe the Funny Car legend.

Collins passed away on July 14, 2017, following a battle with cancer.

Collins, while he raced other divisions, was well known for his stereo-sponsored Funny Cars, first with Pioneer and then JVC. During this era, he was instrumental in getting the NHRA to accept foreign bodied entries.

ENDERS HAS FOUND HER GROOVE AGAIN IN 2017

Like any competitor, Erica Enders enjoyed the view from the top of the mountain.

After a season when every aspect of her team was tested, Enders isn’t all the way back up, but the view is starting to get a whole lot better again.

The two-time Pro Stock world champion appears to have fully recovered from a miserable 2016 that included no victories and the Elite Motorsports team’s frustrating year trying to run a Mopar.

LARRY MORGAN READY TO FIGHT UPHILL BATTLE OF RESURRECTING ADRL

Larry Morgan has been around long enough in the business to understand there are times when opportunity falls into your lap.

Morgan, the seasoned Pro Stock racer from Newark, Ohio, with a never-ending propensity to tell you about the world as he sees it, will never forget when the opportunity to become a race series president fell into his lap.

"It was what had to be 130-degrees, and I was laying on my back fixing a broken air conditioner unit," Morgan proclaimed without hesitation.

Jeff Biegun, Morgan's sponsor through his racerdirect.net company, called on his driver for a favor.

SAVING THE GATORS WAS OF HIGHEST PRIORITY FOR SAVOIE

Missing a race wasn’t ideal for reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Jerry Savoie.

But what he gained in return more than made up for it.

Savoie, who already has one win this season, returned in Chicago after missing the NHRA stop in Norwalk. It certainly wasn’t scheduled, either, as Tropical Storm Cindy in Louisiana caused Savoie to miss the race, but not for reasons one might expect.
