ANTRON KNOWS ALL TOO WELL HOW STEVE TORRENCE FEELS

 

Antron Brown can understand how Steve Torrence feels these days; well, kinda sorta.

Torrence has only beaten the defending Top Fuel champion twice in their 22 head-to-head races. 
 
Brown, while in his first three seasons found himself on the short-end of the stick in rivalries against two of the top running drivers in his first three seasons of Top Fuel.

CAPPS CAPTURES FIFTH TITLE OF SEASON WITH BRISTOL WIN

Last year was unforgettable for veteran nitro Funny Car driver Ron Capps as he finally won a coveted NHRA world championship.

Well, he's delivering quite the encore in 2017.

NO COINCIDENCE: MILLICAN EARNS FIRST NHRA TOP FUEL VICTORY AT BRISTOL

The day started out painfully for Clay Millican and ended in the NHRA winners circle Sunday in a swirl of emotions that transcended the obvious joy of a racer who had slogged through 254 starts without a victory – especially after he had won more IHRA Ironman trophies than any Top Fuel driver in history.

At Bristol Dragway, in his beloved home state of Tennessee, on Fathers Day – a day he didn’t even want to talk about after losing 22-year-old son Dalton in a motorcycle accident in August 2015 – Millican claimed his long-awaited first NHRA triumph Sunday.

EDELBROCK APPOINTS A NEW PRESIDENT

Edelbrock is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Rogers to the position of President of Edelbrock LLC.

The Board of Directors of Edelbrock LLC has appointed Steve Rogers as the company's President, succeeding Wayne Murray, who will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer. Previously, Steve was the President and CEO of K&N Engineering, Inc. from 2003 to 2014. At Edelbrock, Steve will focus on product strategies and marketing initiatives to continue growing the brand. Wayne Murray will continue to focus on overseeing Edelbrock's manufacturing and foundry operations. John Colaianne will remain as Chief Executive Officer.

LAUGHLIN RACES TO BRISTOL’S PRO STOCK CROWN

Being a part-time NHRA Pro Stock racer makes things difficult for Alex Laughlin.

That, however, didn’t detour Laughlin this weekend at the Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn.

LANGDON'S SATURDAY EXPLOSION SENDS DIEHL AND CREWMAN INTO EVASIVE ACTION

Jeff Diehl has dodged cones behind the wheel. He's even dodged errant race cars crossing the centerline. 

Diehl, who is an avid surfer in his downtime, can add a supercharger drive to his resume.

Saturday, during Top Fuel's Q-4 session, Diehl, along with Jim Dunn Racing crewmember Eugene Gray were standing along the chain link fence at the edge of the professional pits watching the action when Shawn Langdon experienced his massive supercharger explosion. 

The blast set the shrapnel flying from the fiery engine. 

FORCE LEARNED HIS LIFE'S LESSONS THROUGH FATHER'S TOUGH LOVE

John Harold Force carries his father's name in the middle of his full name. However, the gifting of the name pales in comparison to the life's lessons the 68-year old, 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion received from Harold Louis Force, a man with deep French roots.. 
 
"Good man. I always looked up to him," said Force without hesitation. "He was a role model that I followed, even though he come from the old school. Truck driver, hard worker, street fighter."

There was three traits a Force child must retain. They were all equally important; Force pointed out. They must be a hard worker, respectful of elders and be able to fight if challenged. 

WORSHAM, FORCE EXCHANGE WORDS FOLLOWING FIRST ROUND RACE

 

Tempers flared in the Bristol Dragway shutdown area during first round Funny Car eliminations at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. 

In a close race, John Force defeated Del Worsham, and shortly after the Funny Cars crossed the finish line, the 16-time champion's Camaro darted over into Worsham's lane. There was no contact between the race cars, but upon exiting his car, Worsham was not shy about voicing his displeasure.

MILLICAN, CAPPS AND LAUGHLIN TAKE HOME WALLYS AT THE THUNDER VALLEY NATIONALS

Clay Millican piloted his Parts Plus / Great Clips dragster to his first career Top Fuel victory Sunday at the 17th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Ron Capps (Funny Car) and Alex Laughlin (Pro Stock) were also winners in their respective categories at the 11th event of 24 on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

COUGHLIN WINS PRO MOD EVENT AT NHRA THUNDER VALLEY NATIONALS

Troy Coughlin powered to the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series victory Sunday at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, presented by the Real Pro Mod Association, was the seventh of 12 events on the 2017 schedule.

Coughlin ran a 5.878-second pass at 253.09 mph in his JEGS Mail Order '15 Corvette to defeat No. 1 qualifier Shane Molinari and his S&T Truck Repair Inc. '68 Firebird’s 5.881 at 254.76 for his first win of the season.
