MURPHY WINS NOSTALGIA TOP FUEL AT HOLLEY NATIONAL HOT ROD REUNION

Racing took center stage during the final day of the 2017 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA at Beech Bend Raceway Park as eliminations took place in each of the categories.

Jim Murphy took the win in Nostalgia Top Fuel defeating James Young in the thrilling final round. Murphy was in his fifth consecutive final round but had yet to tally a win in over two years.

‘MEAN MACHINE’ PUSHES COUGHLIN TO TOP OF PRO STOCK LADDER

Jeg Coughlin and his Elite Motorsports / JEGS Camaro have been the ones to beat in the Pro Stock class this weekend at the Thunder Valley NHRA Nationals.

And nothing changed Saturday, as he maintained his No. 1 qualifying position on the strength of Friday’s run, when he covered the Bristol Dragway quarter-mile in 6.694 seconds at 204.85 mph.

RAIN PROVES TO BE TORRENCE’S FRIEND IN TOP FUEL QUALIFYING

Most of the time, drag racers groan or grit their teeth in annoyance when it rains.

But NHRA Top Fuel racer Steve Torrence was delighted Saturday afternoon that a shower swept through East Tennessee and cooled down the 1,000-foot course at Bristol Dragway.

If drag racing his Pro Stock Camaro didn't mean so much to John Gaydosh, his life could have been so much easier on his 23rd wedding anniversary.

In the midst of a career moment, Gaydosh, during last weekend's NHRA Summernationals wounded an engine in scoring an upset victory over Tanner Gray. The damage threatened to keep him from racing this weekend.

With the blessings of wife Tina, and help from fellow competitors Kenny Delco and Alan Prusiensky, Gaydosh and his team put in the long hours to prepare the car for this weekend's event.

NO. 1 PRO MOD QUALIFIER, MOLINARI, WINS FIRST ROUND SATURDAY AT BRISTOL

Shane Molinari secured the No. 1 qualifier Saturday at the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. This weekend’s Pro Mod Racing, presented by Real Pro Mod Association, is the seventh of 12 events this season.

Molinari’s pass of 5.837 seconds at 256.70 mph in his S&T Truck Repair Inc. ’68 Firebird during the final round of qualifying secured him lane choice during the first elimination session Saturday afternoon. He defeated Jim Whiteley in the first round with a 5.934 at 227.50.

TORRENCE, WILKERSON AND J. COUGHLIN JR. SECURE TOP QUALIFYING SPOTS AT BRISTOL

Steve Torrence claimed the No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel Saturday evening at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Tim Wilkerson (Funny Car) and Jeg Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock) were also No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the 11th event of 24 on the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.
