SCRUGGS, COX AND STRICKLAND PACE FIRST-DAY PDRA SOUTHERN EXTRAMA NATS QUALIFYING

 

Jason Scruggs overcame his early-season struggles to earn the provisional number-one qualifier position in Pro Extreme at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Southern Extreme Nationals. 

“For me it feels good [to qualify number one] because we’ve been struggling with a bunch of new parts on the car. It’s a relief to get down the track tonight and not be behind the eight-ball going into tomorrow. Plus, Bubba Stanton has been running his mouth, so I don’t have to listen to him talk smack all night,” Scruggs joked, referencing the 2014 Pro Extreme champion who is back in competition after missing most of the 2016 season.

Lyle Barnett will never be able to say he has a burning passion for drag racing without thinking of his greatest fight. 

Barnett, of Robbins, NC, shakes his head at the irony of two words which perfectly describe the fight of and for his life a little over a year ago. 

Barnett, who in 2015 was a Drag Radial racer competing in the Radial vs. The World division at the No Mercy 6 event hosted by South Georgia Motorsports Park when a fuel injection failure engulfed his C-5 Corvette. 

AUSSIE NOSTALGIA FUNNY CAR SERIES GOES INTERNATIONAL FOR 2017/2018 SEASON

The Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car series has taken another big step as the entertainment-based tour now heading overseas with a visit to Meremere Dragway in New Zealand.

Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Series Manager, Morice McMillin was excited to have the calendar in place to help the series’ competitors plan their seasons, “We are trying to get things done as early as possible and continue the momentum that we have managed to generate.”

LARRY DIXON RETURNING TO GAINESVILLE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2015 CRASH

Top Fuel racer Larry Dixon will return to the site of one of National Hot Rod Association drag racing’s wildest crashes when the three-time NHRA Mello Yello Series Top Fuel champion competes in next week’s 48th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway on March 17-19.
 
Dixon, 50, walked away from a spectacular qualifying crash two years ago on Saturday, March 14, 2015 when the Top Fuel dragster he was driving broke in half near the track’s 1000-foot finish line and flew some 75 feet in the air. Dixon was able to climb from the car’s wreckage.

Ever since Mendy Fry was a kid, her ultimate goal was to earn a place in drag racing history.

In a rain-delayed Nostalgia Top Fuel final at the Good Vibrations March Meet, her dream came true.

Fry, who qualified No. 8 in the eight-car front-engine dragster field, was a giant-killer throughout eliminations taking out the top two qualifiers en route to her first career Top Fuel victory. Truth be known, she performed like a giant with 5.5-second performances

When the 2017 Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) season begins for Melanie Salemi Motorsports, it will come with a marketing boost. Melanie Salemi Motorsports recently announced a marketing partnership with Strange Engineering for the 2017 race season.

DECADE OF THRILLS: ZAPPIA TAKES TENTH ANDRA TOP DOORSLAMMER TITLE

John Zappia claimed an unprecedented tenth ANDRA Top Doorslammer Series title with his Fuchs Holden Monaro on Sunday at Perth Motorplex's Westernationals, adding to his record of dominance in one of Australian drag racing's most competitive categories. Winning the Westernationals on his home turf was an added bonus.

After qualifying in the top position with an elapsed time of 5.74-seconds, Zappia knew he had a good shot at wrapping up the championship during Sunday's eliminations if points rival Mark Belleri went out early. Belleri was indeed unable to compete due to engine damage, and the crown went to Zappia much earlier than anticipated.

SAMPEY TALKS ABOUT TEAM LIBERTY’S WHIRLWIND TO MAKE DEBUT AT GATORS

​Some NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle teams have had busy off-seasons. That is an understatement for the newly-formed Pro Stock Motorcycle team, Team Liberty Racing. Riders Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey, a three-time NHRA world champ (2000-2002) will make its debut at the Gatornationals March 16-19 in Gainesville, Fla.

Sampey, Team Liberty’s team manager, Ken Johnson will serve as her team’s co-crew chief with Chris Rivas.
