GLIDDEN RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL

 

NHRA Pro Mod racer Billy Glidden was released from Orlando Regional Hospital this morning, February 23, 2017, following a two-day stay after a severe accident while making a test run in 2010 Mustang on Monday in Orlando, Fla. 

Glidden sustained five broken ribs and bruised lungs. All cat scans came back negative for head injuries even though he was knocked unconscious momentarily during the inciden.

Following a steady start to the 24-race NHRA season in Pomona, Calif., where rookie Tanner Gray and his father Shane both reached the quarterfinals, the two drivers have swapped their Valvoline-backed Chevrolet Camaros for this weekend's 33rd annual NHRA Arizona Nationals.    
    
"Dave (Connolly, crew chief) feels like he has a better handle on the car Dad drove in Pomona and even though the guys were spending most of their time on the car I was driving, Dad qualified better and had a slightly quicker car every round," Tanner said. "They made the call to switch cars so I'll be in that one this weekend and we'll see how it goes from there."

Scotty Cannon and Alan Pittman are not only partners on a Radial vs. The World race car but also friends, and to their friends and family are husbands-in-law. 

A story this juicy cannot be made up. It all begins in the mid-1990s when Cannon and his first wife Pam divorced, only for friend Pittman to end up marrying her. For almost two years, the two longtime drag racers never spoke. 

GULF WESTERN OIL TO JOIN 400 THUNDER, SYDNEY DRAGWAY

 

Peter Beaumont, general manager of Australia’s Sydney Dragway, has contended that the growing 400 Thunder Drag Racing Series has helped in “relaunching our sport as a major competitor in the motorsport sector.”
 
He and his racetrack, along with the Australian drag-racing scene, received a major boost Monday with Gulf Western Oil’s announcement that it will become the naming-rights partner of the Nitro Thunder event at Sydney Dragway for the next three years.
 
The May 5-6 race will be the first for Gulf Western Oil’s commitment to the New South Wales facility that’s considered the country’s premier drag-racing venue.

Drag racing champion Billy Glidden has crashed during a test session at the Orlando Speed World Dragway.

Glidden was making a test run in his 2010 Mustang when he encountered severe tire shake while running in the right lane. The car then turned right and impacted the right retaining wall before crossing the track where it struck the left retaining wall. The car came to a stop in the right lane.

Morgan will revive his drag-racing career at next month’s Gatornationals as a 62-year-old rookie in the J&A Service Pro Modified Series driving Brad Anderson’s brand-new supercharged Chevy Camaro. He wasn’t denigrating the class when he said, “Even though I love it, it’s done. I don’t know how it can survive.”

A MANUFACTURER'S MIDWAY WHICH DELIVERS OLD SCHOOL RESULTS

 

One of the staples of the Lights Out 8 events is the success and popularity of its Manufacturers Midway from those attending the popular drag radial event at South Georgia Motorsports Park located outside of Valdosta, Ga.

During the four-day event, as many as 75 vendors are set up and doing business, with less than one-third of those participating peddling apparel and souvenirs.

Quartermax and RJ Race Cars are two of those major companies involved in drag racing who use the more targeted venue to display their products and services.
