NFL'S FLETCHER COX USES DRAG RACING AS HIS DIVERSION

Even beastly NFL defensive linemen need a break from beast mode.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has a diversion which is a beast of another sort.

Cox, drafted 12th overall in 2012 out of Mississipi State, fields a high-performance Mustang driven by Shawn Ayers, and covers the eighth-mile drag strip in four seconds.

ALBRECHT REDEEMS HIMSELF WITH LIGHTS OUT 8 VICTORY

Joe Albrecht proved one doesn't need to grab all the headlines to be the headliner in the end.

Albrecht, who made the long haul from Bellmore, NY to Valdosta, Ga., traveled a little further by racing through four grueling rounds of competition in the Radial vs. The World division to beat top speed runner Mark Woodruff in the final round.

"The winner of this race is the one who will be able to keep their car together throughout the whole week," Albrecht explained. "You don't have to be the one consistently setting the records, but you do have to be consistently quick.

BILLY GLIDDEN TO BRING OUT FAMILY'S TRADITIONAL STARS & STRIPES ON MICKEY THOMPSON MUSTANG

A lot of classic Pro Stock fans will be happy next month, and they can thank second-generation drag racer Billy Glidden and his sentimental gesture.

Glidden will enter the 2017 NHRA J&A Pro Modified Series with the same Mustang he's run for nearly a decade, but with a new look.

Glidden, who is sponsored by Mickey Thompson Tires, has his seasoned nitrous-injected Mustang adorned in the same red, white and blue stars his father Bob Glidden made famous in the 1970s.

STEVIE "FAST" JACKSON TO NO 1: "THERE'S MORE TO COME"

At this point, it's apparent little can rattle Stevie "Fast" Jackson.

Returning to the same lane where he crashed a race car on his last trip to South Georgia Motorsports Park didn't do it.

One-hundred percent wholesale changes to a car with less than ten runs barely fazed him.

Watching a fellow racer lay down the quickest elapsed time in radial tire drag racing didn't even make it on his radar.

SKILLMAN HOPING FOR BETTER RESULTS IN PHOENIX

This wasn’t the start to the 2017 NHRA season Pro Stock driver Drew Skillman had in mind.

Skillman, who had two wins and finished sixth in the 2016 points standings, began the new campaign with a thud at the season-opening Winternationals at Pomona, Calif.

STEVIE "FAST" JACKSON THUNDERS TO THE TOP OF RADIAL VS. WORLD QUALIFYING WITH IMPROVED SHADOW 2.0

When you are christened with the nickname "Fast," you have a reputation to uphold.

Let the record reflect, Friday morning during the completion of the Q-2 Radial vs. The World session during Lights Out 8, Stevie "Fast" Jackson provided an object lesson.

Jackson sped to the top of the 32-car Radial vs. The World field with a 3.790, 200.08 miles per hour behind the wheel of a new Camaro-built by RJ Race Cars and sponsored by Strange Engineering.

PAUL LEE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM FUNNY CAR RACING

NHRA Nitro Funny Car driver, Paul Lee, is retiring from the sport of drag racing. Lee suffered a heart attack over the winter and will not be returning to the seat of his McLeod Racing/ Kalitta Motorsports Nitro Funny Car.

On December 13, 2016, two days after returning from a successful PRI show in Indy, Lee experienced a massive “widow maker” heart attack, with 100% blockage of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery. Three stints were inserted in his main artery, but Paul suffered significant heart damage as a result.

DAY TWO LIGHTS OUT 8 RACES TO CURFEW

Day Two of the daily marathon known as Lights Out 8 hosted by South Georgia Motorsports Park outside of Valdosta, Ga., ended with an incomplete grade. A score of mishaps and engine failures pushed race officials to suspend the second session of Radial vs. The World until Friday morning at 9 AM, EST.

Mark Woodruff, Wednesday's provisional No. 1, was one of the eight drivers who failed to get in his run, remained the top runner with his 3.835 performance.
