According to a report published at kwqc.com, the World Series of Drag Racing will return to Cordova Raceway Park this August.
In the report, and attributing to a Cordova manager, more details will be announced at the track's banquet on February 4. The official date for the return is reportedly August 25 - 26, 2017.

Del Worsham has faced easier tasks in his nearly 27-years of drag racing. Starting in December with a sponsorship search, with no leads in hand, was nothing short of an impossible mission.
Let the record reflect the 46-year old two-time NHRA champion has a knack for pulling off the impossible from time to time.
Worsham announced today his family-operated nitro team will race in six races this season with major sponsorship from Lucas Oil.

Pat Minick was the antithesis of what we expect hero race car drivers to be, and this was certainly true during the heyday of Funny Car match racing five decades ago. He lacked the killer good looks of a Hollywood superstar and was, in fact, somewhat rotund. He didn’t have the personality of a late-night TV host, but could tell tales about his experiences and exploits in drag racing that would convulse his audiences with laughter. When telling those tales, he was absolutely that guy who made you spit milk out of your nose when you were a kid in that school lunchroom.
But Minick could drive, oh yes he could. And he was smart, in some ways far more so than many of his contemporaries. He and two Chicago buddies, John Farkonas and Austin Coil (all inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2014), teamed up on an altered wheelbase Mopar backed by Sedlak Plymouth that would eventually morph into the Chi-Town Hustler. It was a machine – really, more than one --that would bring the trio national acclaim while in some ways changing the face of match racing forever.

Last year, during the PDRA Spring Open event in Rockingham, NC., the fast doorslammer racer experienced an engine fire which led to significant cosmetic damage. Yesterday, the classic Chevrolet rolled out of the Jerry Bickel Chassis Shop.

NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing fans were split down the middle as to a perfect number of events on the drag racing calendar in last week's ARP Question of the week. Of 6670 votes cast in the informal poll, 50-percent agreed the 24-event NHRA tour is a perfect size. An equal amount believed a 16-18 race schedule was a better option.

NHRA Team Owner Don Schumacher confirmed today he has parked one of his four Top Fuel teams until he can secure proper sponsorship to race the entire 24-event NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.
Schumacher will not field the dragster driven by past Top Fuel champion Shawn Langdon.
Langdon, who joined the team in late 2015 when Alan Johnson Racing ceased operations, was disappointed but understood Schumacher's decision.

Erica Enders readily admits she couldn't have pressed the throttle of her Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stocker to the floor any harder in her first burnout of 2017.
Enders, a two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion, was in Nobile, Ok., participating in her first test session since what many would call a debacle of a season last year. After setting high standards with back-to-back titles, Enders and Elite Motorsports finished ninth in the championship point standings, losing in the first round 14 times in 2016.
The two championship seasons only netted a combined four first round losses.

As if Rockingham Dragway’s fall schedule wasn’t busy enough with the Super Chevy Show, the NHRA Lucas Oil Series, the Jim McClure All-Harley Nitro Nationals, the Street Outlaws, ManCup, IDBL World Finals and the SRI Performance Fall Civil Wars, owner Steve Earwood announced Tuesday that the track has been named the new home of the NHRA’s Summit Racing ET Finals.
The Southeast Division ET Finals will be contested at The Rock Oct. 5-8, 2017, with racers from 19 tracks in seven states and Puerto Rico eligible to participate. The series has been contested nationally, in seven separate divisions, for the last 41 years. The Southeast Summit ET Finals most recently was contested at Atlanta Dragway.
