TORRENCE TUTORS BROWN ON THE TEXAS LIFE

As promised, Steve Torrence hosted Antron Brown at his Kilgore, Texas, home for a few days after Brown beat him in the final round of the most recent race near Dallas.

Torrence jokingly hinted that Texas hospitality wasn’t uppermost in his mind. “My only chance [to win the championship] was to hold Antron hostage for a couple weeks in Kilgore,” he said. But Brown had the cowboy hat traditionally awarded to the winner of the AAA Texas FallNationals, so Torrence had to school him in cowboy life, Texas style.

Together they enjoyed eating barbecue, Mexican food, and pecan cobbler – and target shooting with everything from rifles to shotguns to fully automatic machine guns and Rambo-like 50-caliber weapons.

FUN IN THE SUN BRACKET RACE TO DELIVER IMPRESSIVE PURSE, COMPETITION

With four separate races paying as much as $20,000 to the winner on Saturday, with $10,000 up for grabs by the winner in each of the three remaining races, it’ll be an exciting time for all attendees.

Contested on the eighth-mile, big buck bracket racing typically involves dragsters and the like with a heavy emphasis on electronics. Only recently though, door cars have been making headway when it comes to race wins, and the latest is an invitation for footbrake racers (no electronics) to come and join the party. It’s a concept that has become increasingly popular.

BROWN GOES WITH THE FLOW, FLOATS TO A THIRD TOP FUEL TITLE

Tony Pedregon is a former NHRA Funny Car driver, FOX TV commentator, painter, and one-time boxer – and maybe a wise advisor to Top Fuel’s Antron Brown.
