DAN STEVENSON TAPPED TO DRIVE HRUSKA'S PRO MOD ENTRY

Precision turbo and engine has announced that NHRA Pro Mod veteran and former nitrous racer Dan Stevenson will take the wheel of the PTE 2014 Pro Mod Chevrolet Camaro for the remainder of the 2016 NHRA race season.

"I am excited to drive the PTE Camaro, it's an opportunity to race with one of the best in the business," said Stevenson, who resides in Illinois and made the switch from nitrous to turbo after a devastating crash in Gainesville earlier this year.

SPY SHOTS - JERRY BICKEL'S 2017 ZL-1 CAMARO

Want a 2017 ZL1 Camaro? If you do, our spy inside the Jerry Bickel Race Cars shop has sent us these spy shots of the first of the next Camaro bodies. Word has it Bickel has some under construction with a few more on order. Could this be the hottest car for next season?

THE PROCESS COMES FULL CIRCLE FOR ROBERT HIGHT

The mechanic in Robert Hight needed an answer. The driver in him understood his crew had the issue completely under control.

Thus was the mindset of the 2009 NHRA Funny Car champion as his Auto Club of Southern California Camaro Funny Car exploded an engine during Saturday's qualifying at the NHRA U.S. Nationals, turning the car's body into carbon fiber confetti.

Hight has been on both sides of the mayhem. He's been the crewman who watched a Funny Car self-destruct while standing on the starting line as well as from inside the heavily-shrouded and safe confines of the driver's cockpit.

PRO STOCK’S LINE STARTING AT SQUARE ONE WITH PLAYOFFS

Call NHRA Pro Stock leader Jason Line cynical.

Actually, he’s practical and realistic.

Whichever is more accurate, the driver of the KB/Summit Racing Equipment Chevy Camaro knows the Countdown to the Championship is no respecter of what anyone has done in the first 18 races of the season.

JEFF & ANGIE PITTMAN HONOR FALLEN FRIEND WITH TRIBUTE PAINT SCHEME

Jeff and Angie Pittman were on the same page; they just didn't know it.

They had planned to paint Angie's Top Dragster blue and white, the traditional color for the husband and wife drag racing team. Jeff races a Top Sportsman Chevelle.

This weekend's NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMax Dragway will be their first since the fatal April accident which claimed the life of their friend Ronnie Davis.

HARKER RETURNS TO THE DRAG STRIP

Steve Harker was just happy to be back out at the drag strip, even if he wasn't driving a race car.

Harker, a transplanted Australian racing in the Top Alcohol Funny Carclass, was in the news back in June, and it wasn't for his domination in races.

Instead, Harker, during a run at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, encountered severe tireshake which caused his Funny Car to abruptly turn right and directly hit the retaining wall. He suffered broken ribs and underwent surgery to repair some internal injuries.

NO NIGHTMARES ABOUT NO TITLE YET FOR ‘AMERICAN DREAM’ CAPPS

“It doesn’t weigh on me.”  . . .

“I know the time is going to come.”   . . .

“I'm OK with it, because I wake up in the morning and– I started in this sport as a crew guy and worked my way up. I'm the American dream, if you will. I wanted to drive someday but had to start from the very bottom, wiping tires. I had people let me hang around their cars and learn and worked my way into a driver job. I've done it for a living. I have a house, a family, that this sport of NHRA has given me. But since the very beginning, I've done it for the love of just racing, driving a race car.”

MCCULLOCH JOINS JOHN FORCE FUNNY CAR TUNING BRAINTRUST

John Force's Peak-sponsored Chevrolet will have a familiar face beside tuner Jon Schaffer starting this weekend at the NHRA Carolina Nationals, the first stop in the six-race Countdown to the Championship.

Schaffer, who led the team to two victories during the Western Swing, will be joined by Jason McCulloch in sharing the tune-up duties. Nick Casertano will continue his day-to-day duties of crew management and Funny Car operations on the PEAK team.

McCulloch was previously on the Monster Energy Top Fuel dragster team.

JOHNSON AND HARTFORD MAKING POSITIVE MOVES IN THE MIDST OF BRIGHT FUTURE

Warren Johnson didn't mind driving a race car but given his choice of getting into the mechanical aspects of a race car or climbing behind the wheel to drive it; he'd just as soon have a handful of wrenches and a challenge to figure out.

Johnson said he only took up driving early in his career because son Kurt was too young to drive, and Arlene had no interest, leaving him as the only available candidate.

Johnson, more commonly referred to as "The Professor" for his methodical approach to race cars, hasn't slowed down since dropping out of the rat race of chasing a 24-race NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.
