JONATHAN GRAY RETURNS TO PRO MOD COMPETITION AT INDY

Currently holding the rights to the elapsed time half of the Pro Mod national record with a 5.751, Jonathan Gray hasn’t been behind the wheel of a Pro Mod since his frightful crash in Houston earlier this season.

Gray has partnered with Hairston Motorsports and will be running for the U.S. Nationals title in their bright orange Pontiac GTO. Gray also plans to attend St. Louis and Las Vegas this season.

BRYCE ISSUES CHALLENGE TO VANCE & HINES, NHRA - PROVE YOU CAN WIN ON ANOTHER BIKE, ENFORCE THE RULES FAIRLY

George Bryce wants the drag racing world to know his feelings.

The championship-winning team owner isn't mincing his words, either.

Bryce believes the Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson riders should have an asterisk by their accomplishments in NHRA's media guide, and any other statistical piece of literature.

LARRY DIXON RACING GAINS MOMENTUM FOR THE FUTURE

Three-time NHRA Mello Yello Series Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon has announced the addition of race cars and necessary racing equipment to his Larry Dixon Racing stable at his team’s headquarters in Brownsburg, Ind.

Dixon, who returned to full-time racing in 2015, won the battle with throat cancer in 2015 and survived a punishing 109g crash at the NHRA Gatornationals which broke his T-4 and T-5 vertebrae. But the veteran Indianapolis driver kept competing and finished in fourth place in the final Top Fuel standings.

LIVE NHRA BROADCAST ADDED TO FOX SPORTS 1 PROGRAMMING

NHRA officials announced today that FOX Sports 1 (FS1) is adding 30 minutes of live NHRA programming on Saturday, Aug. 20, during the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals to televise the postponed final rounds of Top Fuel and Funny Car from the Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

Both final rounds will take place during the third round of qualifying at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. The Pro Stock final from Seattle between Vincent Nobile and Aaron Strong will take place during the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis.

ANDERSON, WILKERSON TOP QUESTION OF THE WEEK POLLING

Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson learned a valuable lesson last week. Be careful of what you wish for because you might just get it.

After a race fan uttered he couldn't stand to see the Anderson win, unbeknownst the Summit Racing-sponsored driver was standing in the corner of the elevator, gentleman looked afterwards at him and uttered, "I'm not ashamed."

Anderson responded, “I’m not ashamed either, it’s great to be hated.”

FIORITO FINALLY STARTING TO SEE PACIFIC RACEWAYS VISION COME TRUE

Jason Fiorito will have paid more than half a million dollars, shrugged off insults and doubts, and slogged through a bog of government-red-tape requirements before he even can begin physically building his vision for Pacific Raceways, near Seattle, in early 2017.

But he has turned the corner for shaping the multipurpose facility that recently hosted the Protect The Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals into innovative tech center that revolves primarily around the dragstrip and road course but includes the karting and motocross venues.

GROUP INTENT ON BRINGING BACK CLASSIC PRO STOCK GLORY

If you were to see a ’72 Plymouth Barracuda and a ’73 Duster in the pits, one with “Ronald Lyles” spelled out on the side and another with “Motown Missile”, you would probably think that you have stepped into the 1970’s. This display was actually the result of the Don Carlton Memorial and Nostalgia Pro Stock Race at Wilkesboro Dragway located in North Wilkesboro, NC.

The images of the past made their appearance pair after pair, Bob Glidden versus Jerry Eckman while Warren Johnson ran against Dave Shafer. Although these were re-creation cars with completely different drivers, the memories of these heroes that once made these race cars larger than life continue to race on.

GLIDDEN, RUPERT HEADLINE IHRA NORTHERN NATS WINNERS

Many years have lapsed since a Glidden graced the IHRA winner's circle.

Billy Glidden rectified the situation on Saturday as he drove Harry Hruska's turbocharger Camaro to the Pro Modified title at the IHRA Northern Nationals, the final stop on the 2016 IHRA season.

Joining Glidden in the winner's circle were Jason Rupert (Funny Car), Frank Capone (Nitro Motorcycle) and Cary Goforth (Pro Stock).

THE TRICKSTER HEADLINES FIRST DAY IHRA NORTHERN NATIONALS QUALIFYING

There was a time when "Trickie" Rickie Smith ruled the roost in IHRA competition.

Friday, at a soggy U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, Smith a seven-time IHRA champion provided a refresher course during first-day qualifying at the IHRA Northern Nationals. Rain limited Friday action to one professional qualifying session. Summit Pro-Am Tour activity was cancelled and will resume Saturday morning with qualifying at 9 a.m. ET.

Joining Smith atop their respective divisions were Jason Rupert (Nitro Funny Car), Tracy Kile (Nitro Motorcycle) and Trevor Eman (Pro Stock)
