SCOTT PALMER ON NITRO DOORSLAMMER "COOLEST THING I'VE EVER DRIVEN IN MY LIFE"

There's a part of Top Fuel racer Scott Palmer that felt like Evel Knievel when he strapped into the seat of his nitro-burning, Pro Modified-style Studebaker.

Palmer had been 300 miles per hour in a Top Fuel dragster, and sometimes on fire. But even this experience could not prepare him for a run behind the wheel of a doorslammer armed with the same mechanical innards as his dragster.

PRITCHETT ADJUSTS TO LIFE AS NHRA’S RESIDENT WANDERER

Leah Pritchett has literally seen it all this season.

From the high of winning her first career race in Phoenix, to the low of losing her ride shortly thereafter when her BVR team disbanded. From the high of driving for one of the strongest teams in all of drag racing, to the low of trying to find funding just to make one more run in a weekend.

There really isn’t anything left that can be thrown at the 28-year-old California native.

ZIZZO PREPARES FOR RETURN TO COMPETITION

Veteran Top Fuel driver T.J. Zizzo will make his 2016 season debut at the Route 66 Nationals July 7-10 in Joliet, Ill., his home track.

“There’s multiple reasons for everything we do,” Zizzo said. “First of all, we really wanted to be prepared because the last couple of seasons we absolutely have not been prepared as we normally are, and it was showing. We qualified well, but we really wanted to get things in order. This kicks off our third year with Rust-Oleum, which is fantastic and there’s many years to come, which is even better. Those are the reasons: cash flow, preparedness, and we wanted to test first, and we tested three weeks ago at Route 66 and it went better than expected.”
