During the third round of qualifying Saturday at the 10th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park, Ron Capps’ class-leading run of 3.977-seconds at 318.77 in the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car was disallowed by NHRA due to “use of an unapproved aerodynamic device.”
The disqualification cost Capps quickest time of the session and the subsequent bonus points associated with the run. The part in question, according to Don Schumacher Racing, was a deflector used to deflect heat away from the graphics on the side of the car.

Exactly one week prior to winning her first national event in more than nine years, Angelle Sampey attended an NHRA-hosted dinner with her daughter and on each table was a piece of chocolate shaped like a Wally, the coveted trophy given to all of the winners on the NHRA tour.
After finishing her meal, Sampey snuck a few of the chocolates and brought them home to her five-year-old daughter Ava and let her enjoy the delicious treats. Who knew that moment would turn into something so much bigger.

Eddie Krawiec entered the final day of qualifications with a clear understanding he had zero chance to improve on Friday’s 6.822, 195.31 No. 1 qualifying effort. He also knew nobody else would beat his provisional effort.
Saturday became Sunday for Krawiec, and headed into race day at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, his 6.897 and 6.939 weren’t bonus point earners, but he didn’t need to get them either.

Greg Anderson has never been so pleased to be wrong.
Anderson, who ran a 6.565 seconds elapsed time at 211.26 miles per hour to claim the top spot Friday at Norwalk, figured his run would hold through Saturday’s remaining sessions at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals and that part he predicted accurately.

Kalitta Motorsports drivers Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel) and Del Worsham (Funny Car) swept the No. 1 qualifying positions in the nitro categories at their home track of Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. This is the third time the team based in nearby Ypsilanti, Mich., has swept both categories.
Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) will also lead their respective categories into eliminations at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, the 12th race of the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.
