WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN IN NHRA FUNNY CAR

HEALTH ISSUE FORCES TORRENCE TO WITHDRAW FROM NORWALK

A health issue temporarily has accomplished what rivals have not and that is to slow the pace of Steve Torrence and his Capco Contractors/Rio Ammunition Top Fuel dragster.

LAGANA FAMILY SCHEDULED TO HAVE TWO-CAR TF TEAM AT NORWALK

The Lagana Family Racing team is rolling out a two-car Top Fuel team this weekend.

Dom Lagana is listed as the driver of the one of his family’s dragster’s on NHRA’s entry list for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, Nov. 23-26. Lagana, however, confirmed to CompetitionPlus.com Wednesday night Tripp Tatum will be driving the main Lagana dragster in place of him.

“Tripp drove our car at Gainesville (March 17-20), and this was a race planned for him,” Lagana said. “Maybe two or three weeks ago there were only 14 or 15 cars on the (entry list for Norwalk), and I just threw my name on the list to keep the Top Fuel class going for NHRA. We have two dragsters and our shop is actually just a few miles from the track in Norwalk.”

KB RACING DOMINATION IS ONE FOR THE AGES

Jason Line could only imagine the look on the competition's faces just by judging the reaction on his teammate Greg Anderson's face.

Line, in the heat of the day during Saturday qualifying at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, blasted out a 6.652-second elapsed time at 208.01 miles per hour. The run was the low elapsed time of the weekend to that point, and .023 quicker than Anderson's No. 2 qualifying effort.

"I saw Greg's, so I could assume what the rest of the field looked like," Line said. "It's tough, and I've been on both sides of that. It's a lot of fun, and I will spare you the 'They're gaining on us speech."

Line's run represented the most distance between the top KB Racing car and the rest of the field at .043 of a second.

WILL NBA CAVS’ LUCK RUB OFF ON FUNNY CAR’S CAPPS?

California native Ron Capps has been a steadfast fan of Bay Area sports teams.

But the Funny Car points leader from Don Schumacher Racing is at least an honorary Cleveland fan this week. Besides, he has had a curious kinship with Cleveland for years.

It’s not so much that Capps is a bandwagon sort of follower. He gave up celebrating his 52nd birthday with his family in Carlsbad, Calif., Monday to travel to Ohio’s largest city to promote this weekend’s NHRA Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at nearby Norwalk.

WILKERSON GOING WITH HIS NEW/OLD GIRL THIS WEEKEND

Tim Wilkerson is headed back to the new girl this weekend at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.

After crashing his new, lightweight and state-of-the-art Murf McKinney Funny Car, nicknamed Jamie, at the NHRA Kansas Nationals last month, Wilkerson will bring the repaired ride this weekend with the intention of gaining the momentum he lost.

BILLY GLIDDEN: “IT’S NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS”

Old habits are hard to break, just ask Billy Glidden, a decorated drag racer, and son of 10-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Bob Glidden.

Despite having a full crew and being a hired gun for Harry Hruska's Precision Turbo/Mickey Thompson Pro Modified Camaro, there's nowhere he'd rather be than up to his elbows in grease, deep in the mechanical challenge of making the car quicker and faster. It's the persona bred into him having worked his entire youth for his dad's championship Pro Stock efforts.

Glidden was named as the driver of Hruska's ultra-fast turbo entry prior to the NHRA Summernationals, and despite the second-generation driver's lengthy resume of accomplishments, racing a car with this power adder was not in his career.
