GLIDDEN’S HEALTH STRUGGLES SINCE POMONA RELATED TO PAST ACCIDENT

Ten-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Bob Glidden has been in a struggle with his health since falling and bumping his head on the asphalt at Auto Club Raceway in glidden_wave_to_crowdPomona, Ca, following a qualifying pass during the Auto Club NHRA Finals last November.

Glidden’s collapse, attributed by doctors to an overabundance of potassium, resulted in a fractured skull.

FORD RACING ANNOUNCES 2012 COBRA JET MUSTANG

Since its legendary introduction at the NHRA Winternationals in 1968, Ford’s Cobra Jet Mustang has created a legacy of power, performance and triumph that has MustCobraJet_Blue_2carried through the decades.

In 2008, Ford Racing unveiled the 40th Anniversary Cobra Jet Mustang, which promptly lived up to the legend of the original version, duplicating the NHRA Winternationals victory in its inaugural race.  The subsequent 2010 Cobra Jet, built on the 2010 Mustang platform, has been setting class records and is competitive at drag strips across the country.

Today, Ford Racing unveiled the 2012 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in Orlando, Fla., and announced the intention to build fifty 50 turn-key 2012 CJ’s. For the first time the Cobra Jet will be available in three color options – Race Red, Grabber Blue and Winner White -- and coordinated graphics.

CHRISTIAN CONVERTING TO AUTOMATIC PRO MOD

Doorslammer legend Tony Christian may soon be out of the cockpit, but don’t count him out of racing just yet.

After qualifying in October on the Super Pro Street pole for the prestigious World Street Nationals at Orlando Speed World Dragway, Christian made a surprise announcement of plans to retire from driving. Unfortunately, his exit was hastened by a second-round crash the next day, when the rear wheels of his 2005 Grand Am locked up near the finish line and the resulting slide from the right lane ended with the car going solidly into the left wall. Initially baffled by the cause of the accident, the veteran racer now personally accepts full responsibility.

“I’m not shy to say that the only thing that malfunctioned was me. I reached over, pulled the chutes out, and I hit the transbrake button and stayed on it. It was 100 percent my fault,” Christian admits. “After I hit the chutes I got into the button and you don’t realize you’re on the button in a situation like that when the thing’s locking up and going sideways on you.

HAGAN TRAINING FOR THE REMATCH

Time after time Matt Hagan heard John Force’s spiel.

Force would talk about how he was spending time in the gym, working to get stronger to beat this kid, a hulk of a young man with the physique of a linebacker. The now fifteen-time champion Force often referred to himself as an aging NFL quarterback avoiding a sack from a huge and younger defensive player.

The first two or three times can be inspirational said Hagan. However, when the picture is painted during nearly every interview, “It gets old.”

Next season Hagan plans a major role reversal.
