25K MOUNTAIN MOTOR PRO STOCK SHOOTOUT ADDED TO WSOPM

Pro Mod drivers won’t be the only ones racing for big money at the 2023 Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod, March 3-5, at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Event promoters announced today the $25,000-to-win $hameless Racing Mountain Motor Pro Stock Invitational presented by Seminole Paving, with 16 drivers getting invited.

“My passion for Pro Modified drag racing is no secret, but I’m also very passionate about Mountain Motor Pro Stock,” said Wes Buck, Drag Illustrated founder and WSOPM promoter. “Like Pro Mod, this class has a rich history and a rabid fanbase. With massive, naturally aspirated engines, hood scoops, clutches, and hard-leaving launches, what’s not to like? The $hameless Racing Mountain Motor Pro Stock Invitational presented by Seminole Paving is the perfect complement to the $100,000 winner-take-all World Series of Pro Mod.”

THE ROD SHOP IS BACK! STANFIELD TO DRIVE FACTORY X ENTRY

Greg Stanfield represented an up-and-coming drag racer when he got the call back in the late 1980s. On the other end of the phone was the person responsible for one of the most iconic drag racing teams in history.

Gil Kirk, the driving force behind the Rod Shop branding in the late-1960s through 1980s, made him the last hire in his team car dynamic. When the Rod Shop brand went away, Stanfield went on to a championship career, including five NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Championships.

History repeated itself recently when Kirk reached out to Stanfield with a proposal. Kirk became very interested in the NHRA's forthcoming Factory X division and wanted to make a return. In the interest of fair reporting, this interest was fueled by the passion of Kirk's younger brother Rick. But it didn't take much coaxing.

FUNNY CAR CHAOS HEADED TO THE EAST COAST

Chris Graves had a vision of making Funny Cars the stars of his show. The former standout photographer turned promoter slowly and methodically crafted his program into a nationwide sensation.

It might have been a nationwide sensation, but the series was primarily limited to Texas and parts of the Midwest.

Today comes word the series is heading to the east coast for at least one event. In an exclusive partnership with Maryland International Raceway,  Funny Car Chaos revealed an exclusive five-year partnership with the Budds Creek, Md.-based facility through 2027.

DAMIEN HARRIS MAKES AUSSIE TOP FUEL HISTORY AT PERTH MOTORPLEX

Rapisarda International Autosport International star Damien Harris has become the first driver in the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel championship history to claim back-to-back wins.

The historic occasion played out as part of a double-header meeting at the Perth Motorplex, November 11-12.

His first win came after defeating two-time champ Phil Read in the final of the Red CentreNats, initially scheduled for September but postponed due to inclement weather.

TUTTEROW'S SECOND PDRA CHAMPION IS JUST AS FULFILLING

Sometimes you just need to provide a reminder.

That's exactly what jack-of-all-trades, and master of them all Todd Tutterow did. Nine years ago, the doorslammer racing icon scored the inaugural Professional Drag Racers Association [PDRA] Pro Boost title. Last month he added his second as a reminder that he can still win in the class that focuses on supercharged and turbocharged vehicles.

Tutterow, who races a screw-blown 2020 Camaro, opened the season with back-to-back wins at the East Coast Nationals presented by FuelTech at GALOT Motorsports Park and the Vortech Doorslammer Derby presented by Stroud Safety at Beech Bend Raceway Park. Runner-up finishes at two of the last races of the year, plus a rainout at ProFab DragWars at GALOT, put Tutterow in the position to clinch the 2022 world championship with a first-round win at the Proline Racing Brian Olson Memorial World Finals presented by ProCharger at Virginia Motorsports Park.

RON CAPPS WINS NITRO FC WORLD CROWN IN HIS FIRST SEASON AS TEAM OWNER

Ron Capps made the improbable possible on the final day – Nov. 13 – of the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season by winning his second world championship in a row – and first as a team owner.

Capps arrived in at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif., trailing points leader Robert Hight by 61 points.

Thanks to Capps advancing to the final round and Hight being upset by Bob Tasca III in the second round, Capps won the world title by a mere three points.
