To help with the drive to a sixth world crown, Smith is having veteran competitor Chip Ellis ride one of his MSR bikes at the Texas NHRA FallNationals at the Texas Motorplex in Dallas.

Smith will arrive in Dallas as points leader with a 21-point advantage over Joey Gladstone.

NHRA PRO STOCK: HOW WE GOT TO WHERE WE ARE

Just ask a casual drag racing fan what they think of today's current NHRA Pro Stock, and chances are you will get one of these answers.

"Nothing stock, nothing relatable, never watch them. Best time to go check out the sportsman pits."

"Park a Pro Stock car next to the factory-produced equivalent, and that'll answer the question as far as I'm concerned."

BRADENTON'S FL2K22 FORGES AHEAD WITH 10TH ANNIVERSARY

After a last-minute move from Bradenton Motorsports Park to Gainesville Raceway, FL2K22 presented by Brian Crower is ready to host the biggest and baddest street cars for a weekend of roll racing, drag racing and more, Oct. 6-9. MWDRS GEARING UP FOR DOUBLE EVENT AT TULSA'S FALL THROWDOWN IN T-TOWN

A big weekend is on tap for the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) presented by J&A Service, as the series will crown event champions for two different events at the fall edition of the Throwdown in T-Town, Oct. 6-8, at Osage Casino & Hotel Tulsa Raceway Park. Eliminations from the MWDRS Great Bend Nationals in June will be completed Thursday before kicking off the Tulsa race, adding another element to the historic event.

“We’re coming up on our 30th edition of the Throwdown in T-Town,” said Keith Haney, founder of MWDRS and co-owner of Tulsa Raceway Park. “We do two a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The fan turnout is always amazing. Everybody looks forward to racing at the Throwdown just because of the atmosphere itself. Todd [Martin, track co-owner] does a great job interacting with the fans. Having Al Tucci and Luke Clevenger on the mic and all of them interacting together is pretty cool too.”

HILTON PURCHASES FORMER BARTONE & LEBOR AA/FD FOR CHAMPIONSHIP RUN

The points lead can inspire a team to do many things. For Bobby Hilton, it inspired him to go out and purchase a championship-winning car. He has great expectations for the season now that his team has an essential piece of the puzzle - the AA/FD formerly driven by Tony Bartone.

Hilton fields a Nostalgia Top Fuel dragster driven by his son Tyler. Tyler took over the points lead in June when a staged boycott by members of the All American Fuel Dragsters group kept all but two teams from attending the NHRA Heritage Series' Holley Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Hiltons not only attended but won the event and grabbed the accompanying points. He held the points lead until the most recent event in Tulsa.
