Dave Wallace has penned a masterpiece in the May 2009 issue of Hot Rod on the first Funny Cars, the Super F/X Dodge Chargers.

CompetitionPlus.com's Director of Photography Roger Richards was presented with the honor of shooting a photo layout of the original Jimmy Nix Charger purchased and restored by reknowned musclecar collector Frank Spittle.

THE FIFTH GEN. ROUSH MUSTANG

Before a crowd of enthusiastic fans holding their breath, and media with cameras focused and ready, Jack Roush unveiled the new ROUSH2010Conv.JPGROUSH®
2010 Mustang, the fifth generation high-performance pony car to bear
his name. The debut took place at the Livonia, Mich., vehicle assembly
plant, just yards away from where the new ROUSH 2010 Mustangs will be
built when production begins in early April.

“This is a very exciting day for me and for ROUSH Performance,” Jack
Roush said. “The very first ROUSH Mustang was built in 1994 and we have
come a long way since that day in terms of performance, styling, and
handling. And, this ROUSH 2010 Mustang is a prime example of our
results-oriented program team working together under a tight deadline
to be as close to the Ford factory Job One launch as possible.”

In addition to the car, ROUSH now has more than 150 different parts
which fit the 2010 Ford Mustang and allow owners to personalize their
own vehicle.

HERBERT OPENS SEASON AT CIRCLE TRACK INSTEAD OF DRAGS

NHRA Top Fuel Driver Doug Herbert will participate in activities surrounding the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup herbert.jpgSeries
races held at Bristol Motor Speedway, March 21-22.  Herbert will
compete in a celebrity amateur race as part of the Scotts Saturday
Night Special Charity Event, and will start his dragster in front of
nearly 160,000 spectators during the pre-race ceremonies prior to
Sunday’s Food City 500.

Herbert’s Top Fuel Dragster will be on display outside Bristol Motor
Speedway throughout the weekend, beginning Friday for Food City Race
Night, but will be moved inside the .533-mile oval Sunday morning, when
he will start the 8,000-horsepower machine on the track’s frontstretch.

“Bristol is one of my favorite races,” said Herbert, who scored his
first Top Fuel victory at Thunder Valley in 1992.  “Before they built
zMAX Dragway in Charlotte last year, Bristol was my home track.  I like
going up there so I was excited when they asked me to be at the circle
track.  When we start the dragster for all the NASCAR fans I’m sure
they’ll love it!”

THE CANNONS' NEW GIG

Father-Son Duo to Join Benny Alfonse in 2009 …

When your credentials feature seven world championships, numerous world
records and a penchant for success, the odds of your remaining
unemployed for very long are usually slim to none.

Long Island-based Pro Modified team owner Benny Alfonse confirmed today
that he has purchased the equipment and services of father-son team
Scotty and Scott Cannon to tune and if necessary, drive for his
doorslammer operation. Also joining the team will be painter
extraordinaire Barney Squires as a fill-in driver.

“Yes, I purchased Scotty and all of his stuff. I bought Scotty, I bought
Scott, I bought Barney,” Alfonse confirmed. “I bought everything I could
possibly buy to help me go faster and possibly win something.”

MORAN TURBOS TO THE FIVES

Turbocharged Pro Modified Racer Mike Moran’s Relentless Pursuit of
Excellence …

moran2.JPGMike Moran goes to the starting line knowing his Pro Modified has more
horsepower than anyone he lines up against.

The Pro Modified racer from Taylor, Mich., recently made his first
five-second run, blasting down the quarter-mile in Valdosta, Ga., to a
5.973 at 250.41 miles per hour.

Those familiar with the Pro Modified class would argue that these
volatile doorslammers are already on the verge of striking the
5.7-second barrier; what has taken him so long?

what makes it so prestigious.

“I can not imagine the race without them.”

The MOPAR Canadian Nationals is the longest running IHRA Canadian
national event and one of the few events in drag racing that pits
competitors from all different countries.

Weeks before the NHRA season-opener, Millican underwent surgery to
correct a back injury sustained as a sportsman racer in 1997.

Millican can honestly say when he rolled to the starting line for the
first round of qualifying at the NHRA Kragen Auto Parts Winternationals
in Pomona, Ca., he did so for the first time in his Top Fuel career
without pain.
