friends, will be attending this weekend’s 11th annual Torco Racing
Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Chicago as part of a
Caterpillar-sponsored event to support the David Powers-owned
Caterpillar Top Fuel team.

“We wanted to plan
something unique for our drag racing fans since 'Hot Rod' Fuller is
competing just a few hours from Caterpillar’s corporate headquarters in
Peoria, Ill.,” said Jim Parker, vice president of Caterpillar’s North
American Commercial Division. “We’re thrilled so many of our employees

class crowned its eighth different winner in this season's first nine
races of the NHRA POWERade Series.  Although he knocked on the door
last year with a runner-up finish to Allen Johnson at Denver, Krisher's
sixth career victory was the veteran's first in nearly five years.  But
there will be no time to celebrate for the Ohio native as the factory
hot rods head to Route 66 Raceway for this weekend's 11th annual Torco
Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals.

HARKER’S DOUBLY GREAT DAY

Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Steve Harker has an affinity for doing things in pairs.

The father of twin drag racing daughters, Kate and Diana, he added a
second national event title to match his 2001 victory last Sunday
during the NHRA Summernationals in Topeka, Kansas.

This monumental victory came on the same day he celebrated his 33rd wedding anniversary with wife Jenelle.

WILL RACERS CIRCUMVENT TESTING BAN?

6-4-08testingban.jpgThere may be a moratorium on testing at NHRA national event
facilities, but the restriction can be easily circumvented by teams
testing at non-national event facilities or making a visit to the IHRA
national events where they can essentially test and have a chance to
get paid for doing so.

While no teams are committed to run the IHRA Presidents Cup Nationals
in Budds Creek, Md., or participate in a private test session this
Monday at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich., these venues are
clearly on the forefront of their planning processes.

Del Worsham has experienced easier weekends than he did in attaining
the last man out status in the inaugural running of the NHRA’s
Countdown to the Championship.

At the final race of the first phase in Reading last August, Worsham
controlled his own destiny:  win and he would get in.  He was beaten in
the semis by eventual race and series champion Tony Pedregon.

“We sat around for days and days,” Worsham recalled of the rain-plagued
event. “We basically just raced one round of racing per day.  It got to
the point where we had to win the race.”

Worsham was finally eliminated on Wednesday but not before learning a valuable lesson.

ROB GEIGER'S DARRELL RUSSELL: BROAD SMILES, QUARTER-MILES BOOK HONORED BY AARWBA

The American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association recently honored
go2geiger publisher and founder Rob Geiger and a host of other journalists at
the 41st annual AARWBA Writing, Broadcast & Photography Contest sponsored by
Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Geiger was recognized in the "Motorsports
Book" category for his work entitled, "Darrell Russell: Broad Smiles, Quarter
Miles." The book profiled the life and tragic death of popular Top Fuel driver
Darrell Russell, who died as a result of injuries sustained in a high-speed
racing accident at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis during the 2004
season.

Fellow journalists Dave Argabright, who penned "Lone Wolf," and
Peter Bryant, who authored "Can-Am Challenger," also were tabbed in the
"Motorsports Book" category.
