This year's Super Bowl of Bracket Racing, to
be held on September 22 and 23, will feature an extra Super Bonus provided by
Ohio Crankshaft.  The Saturday winner in
Super Pro and the Sunday Super Pro winner will square off in a one round
shoot-out to run for an additional $1500.00. 
And, the Pro winner from Saturday will face off against Sunday's Pro
winner for an additional $1000.00.  Ohio
Crankshaft will also provide a unique rosewood acrylic trophy for the shoot-out
winners.  The Super Bowl starts off on
Friday with a test and tune and early parking, with gates opening at 4:00

IHRA officials have announced the Canadian Nationals presented by PartSource
will be completed as an 1/8th-mile competition.

Following a full day of rain on Sunday, the racing surface
at Toronto
Motorsports
Park during
round one of eliminations on Monday began to release moisture near the outside
guardwalls. While that round was completed without problems, the situation began
to worsen as the day went on, therefore forcing race officials to make the call
to finish on the 1/8th-mile.

“Safety is always our No. 1 concern and we are again making the call to
run 1/8th-mile with that in mind,” said IHRA vice president of racing
operations Skooter Peaco. “The water was controllable during first round, but by
the end it was to a point where it is more than we can keep up with now. With
impending rain moving in, we didn’t want to take a chance to not finish
today.”

One
of the more prominent storylines entering the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag
Racing season was Warren Johnson’s hiring of veteran tuner Terry Adams
as the crew chief on the GM Performance Parts Pontiac Pro Stocker.  The
initial public reaction acknowledged that their combined experience
would provide a wealth of knowledge, while questioning how their two
vastly different approaches would work together.

Seventeen races later, drag racing’s self-proclaimed “Mutt and Jeff”
team have established a sound working relationship, which has resulted
in a solid performance on the race track, capturing the seventh spot
for the second phase of the POWERade championship tussle, the Countdown
to Four.  Entering the second race of the NHRA’s version of the
playoffs in Memphis, TN, the two veterans took time to talk about their
season, their relationship and their outlook moving forward.

There’s a real world out there completely unlike the fantasyland
that is drag racing.  It’s a world in which people have bills to pay,
jobs to go to and concerns often far more important that the next four
second run or round of eliminations.  We visit that world when we’re
away from the track, but some of us are so wrapped up in what we’re
doing that what’s taking place in homes all across America sometimes
escapes our notice.

IHRA Canadian Nationals Finals Pushed to
Monday

T.J. Zizzo jumped to the No. 1 Top Fuel qualifying position with a track
record-setting 4.576 elapsed time during the IHRA Canadian Nationals presented
by PartSource at Toronto Motorsports Park.

Other professional No. 1 qualifiers include Dale Creasy
Jr. (Nitro Funny Car), Scott Cannon Jr. (Pro Modified), Rob Atchison (Alcohol
Funny Car) and Robert Patrick (Pro Stock).

In Knoll Gas Torco Racing Fuels Pro Nitro Top Fuel,
while points leader Zizzo took the top position and Last Man Standing, Bruce
Litton, who trails Zizzo by 28 points, qualified second and set the track speed
record at 324.20 mph. Scotty Cannon is third, followed by Terry McMillen,
Canadian Todd Paton, Jeff O’Neill and Bobby Lagana Jr. Mitch King sits on the
bump spot at No. 8.

A usually reliable source reports overhearing a conversation between
Tom Compton and Graham Light in the Parks Tower during the running of
the Mac Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals concerning former employee Ray Alley,
which prompted us to track him down.  Prior to his departure from NHRA
late last year Alley was in charge of the three core professional
categories of competition, a position now held by Dan Olson.

Phase
two of the multi-million-dollar, multi-phase renovation project at
Gainesville Raceway is underway, with the new race control tower and
media center quickly taking shape.

McMillen Provisional No. 1 Top Fuel Qualifier At Canadian Nationals
presented by PartSource

Terry McMillen,
Elkhart,
Ind., drove to the provisional No. 1 Top Fuel
qualifying position Friday evening during the IHRA Canadian Nationals presented
by PartSource. McMillen covered the quarter-mile at
Toronto
Motorsports
Park in 4.659 seconds at 311.92 mph
to take the top spot and Last Man Standing.

Other
provisional No. 1 qualifiers include Jack Wyatt (Nitro Funny Car), Scott Cannon
Jr. (Pro Modified), Terry Munroe (Alcohol Funny Car) and John Montecalvo (Pro
Stock).

In Knoll Gas
Torco Racing Fuels Pro Nitro Top Fuel, McMillen is trailed by Bruce Litton,
4.664, Scotty Cannon, 4.736, Jeff O’Neill, 4.762, and Bobby Lagana Jr., 4.915.
Paris, Ontario-native Todd Paton is currently not in the field.

If there was a defining
moment in Floyd Cheek’s decade-long career in IHRA Pro Stock competition, it
certainly came in 1991. The milestone for the former IHRA sportsman champion
(1988 - 8.90 Quick Rod) was reached that year at St. Louis, Missouri,
during one of his first events as a competitor in the mountain motor division.
He and fledgling team owner Alvin Whaley not only qualified No. 1, but also
reached the final round before losing to the iconic Rickie Smith.

“That’s when I really
realized that we could kick some serious butt doing this,” Cheek said. “I shook
the tires on that run, but it really woke me up to doing this.”

Cheek quickly climbed the
ladder of success and in his career reached 16 final rounds with eight national
event victories. He won two of those events in 1997 when he won the world
championship.
