COUGHLIN TAKING TURNS

J_Coughlin.jpgFresh off his 35th career Pro Stock victory at Route 66 Raceway in Chicago,
Jeg Coughlin Jr. spent an off day making high-speed turns around the
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the back seat of Indy racer
Stephan Gregorie's
IRL test racer.

"What a rush!" the two-time Pro Stock champion said
after three laps around the 13-turn circuit, where he reached estimated top
speeds of 160-plus mph. "The concentration these guys and girls need to get
around a course like this at those speeds is just incredible. We need
several minutes of intense concentration to make a quarter-mile pass. These
guys stay at that level for two hours or more. It's just
phenomenal."

ADRL SUSPENDS RICKIE SMITH

The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League announced today that driver Rickie Smith has been suspended for the remainder of the 2007 season for "conduct detrimental to the ADRL."

CHANGES IN THE TUNING WORLD

Numerous and usually very credible sources have informed Torco’s
CompetitionPlus.com that Rahn Tobler will be leaving Morgan Lucas Racing by the
end of the week.  Expect an official announcement by Friday.  With Tobler’s
departure – apparently due to the lack of performance demonstrated by Morgan
Lucas’s car since his arrival just prior to the Las Vegas race – Richard Hogan
will take over the tuning responsibilities.

Drag racing legends are made at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals and
this weekend’s motorsport package at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway
has again bestowed an elite group with such a title.

10.5 CARS JOIN PMRA

Racing in its own series, the wild and ferocious Super Street Outlaw 10.5 cars
will be part of the action when the Pro Modified Racing Association returns to
Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario Saturday, June 16, in the second in
the five-race 2007 PMRA tour.

The Kohler Road drag strip will be host to the Third
Annual KC Auto Family Day Spectacular - PMRA Challenge presented by Paul Wolf
Electric & Lighting Supply Inc., Sylvania and Independent Electrical
Distributors.

Since its inception about 12 years ago, Super Street
Outlaw class drag racing, also known as 10.5 -inch tire racing, has grown
tremendously. With a basic platform revolving around a stock- bodied muscle car
and stock-style front suspension, the class is restricted to a 10.5-inch wide
rear slick, and all entries must run mufflers to maintain some roots to their
street driven origin.

But after that, all bets are off.

TALE OF TWO SCELZIS

Two Scelzis were
interviewed on Sunday. Can you correctly distinguish which is the adult
and which is the ten-year old?

During Sunday’s race, a
Scelzi was interviewed over the public address system.

“Boxers or briefs?” he was
asked.

“Thongs, because that’s
what my boxers became after that run,” he answered.

TEXAS MOTORPLEX PROMOTION

The Texas Motorplex,
home of the 2007 NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec,
September 20-23, has announced its annual summer incentive for customers who

MUSI'S PRO STREET RECORD

With the experience of eight Pro Street championships in the last 10
years, it takes something special to make Pat Musi grin. Those smiles
came pretty easily at the recent NSCA Nationals where Musi reset both
ends of the Pro Street record with a 6.354 elapsed time at 224.06 MPH.
He also won that event to complete the hat trick for a near perfect
weekend.

COUGHLIN: ENJOYING GRAND MARSHALL

The 5th annual Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion is billed as a one-of-a kind
American car lover’s dream featuring nostalgia drag racing and a host of cool
cars. For Jeg Coughlin Sr., the event represents a simple, yet enjoyable trip
down memory lane. As a Hall of Fame racer and the founder of JEGS Mail Order,
one of the world’s largest aftermarket high performance parts suppliers,
Coughlin has been at the forefront of hot rodding and drag racing for nearly
five decades. At this weekend’s Hot Rod Reunion at National Trail Raceway, he
will be honored as the event’s Grand Marshal.

“It is such an
honor to be named the Grand Marshal of this event,” said Coughlin. “I’ve always
said that the best part of these events is being able to see all of your old
friends and former competitors again. I can walk thought the pit area and
literally spend hours reminiscing about the good old days. As we get older, we
realize how special it is to be able to spend time with the people we’ve race
with and against for the last twenty, thirty years or more. My only complaint is
that there aren’t enough hours in the day to see everyone you want to
see.”
