MOTHER NATURE FORCES PDRA SUMMER SHOOTOUT INTO SUNDAY

The Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) was just two pairs away from completing the second round of eliminations in the pro classes when a thunderstorm halted racing action at the Summer Shootout presented by Ty-Drive. The race will continue Sunday morning at Virginia Motorsports Park.

“We were pushing to get as much racing as possible in before that storm hit, but it hit hard enough to completely shut us down for the night,” said Tyler Crossnoe, race director, PDRA. “Our PDRA and Virginia Motorsports Park teams will work through the night to get the track dry and prepped for Sunday eliminations. We’ll start back up at 11 a.m. and do our best to get this race finished up as soon as possible.”

B. FORCE, HAGAN, AND M. SMITH QUALIFY NO. 1 IN DENVER

Brittany Force unleashed the quickest run in the history of Bandimere Speedway on Saturday, rocketing to the No. 1 position in Top Fuel in front of a huge crowd at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil.

Matt Hagan (Funny Car) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also qualified No. 1 in their respective categories at the eighth race of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season.

Force, a former Top Fuel world champ, put together a monstrous track-record run of 3.717-seconds at 326.00 mph in her 11,000-horsepower Monster Energy dragster to close out qualifying. That gave Force her third No. 1 qualifier in 2021 and 23rd in her career, as she tries to close in on her first win of the season and also her first victory on Thunder Mountain in Denver. She’s been close throughout the year, advancing to a pair of final rounds and Force will look to finish the job on Sunday.

TORRENCE CAPS TOP FUEL SESSION, DAY 1 ON MOUNTAIN WITH 3.77 PASS

Top Fuel points leader and reigning champion Steve Torrence was excited to have a night qualifying session Friday to open the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals Presented By Pennzoil at Bandimere Speedway – even though he said, “It’s way past my bedtime.”

But the Capco Contractors Dragster driver salvaged the class’ sketchy performance, grabbing the provisional No. 1 qualifying position with the only three-second Top Fuel pass on the suburban Denver 1,000-foot course.

He used a 3.778-second elapsed time at 327.11 mph “to put on a show like that, just to cap the day off. There were not a lot of good runs out there. To finish strong for the fans like that – and for the Capco team - was awesome.

MILLICAN BACK IN DRIVER’S SEAT

Top Fuel driver Clay Millican loves to be behind the wheel competing for NHRA national event wins.
Millican, a fan favorite, had to sit out the last event on NHRA’s Camping World Drag Racing Series – the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio – with an inner ear infection.

Austin Prock filled in for Millican in the Stringer Performance and advanced to the semifinals before losing to eventual event champion Steve Torrence.

Now, is eager more than ever to be back driving at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High Nationals NHRA Nationals Presented by Pennzoil on July 16-18 in Morrison, Colo., just outside of Denver.
