BO BUTNER CALLS RACING COMMUNITY TO ACTION

Jim Butner Auto Group Pro Stock driver Bo Butner had a call to action during the iHeartRadio's Living Room Concert for America on Sunday night on FOX. The concert helped two charities -- Feeding America and First Responders Children's Foundation.

Yet, he wondered if there was still more that can be done to help those in need, especially when so many hospitals around the country are in need of equipment. That's when an idea came to him.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?: KENNY BERNSTEIN

From the time he resumed his drag racing career in late 1978 until he retired as a team owner following the 2011 season, Kenny Bernstein had a run of staggering success.

For the record: Six NHRA championships (four straight in Funny Car, and two more in Top Fuel); the first driver to break the 300-mph barrier (this week in 1992); the only team owner to win in NHRA, NASCAR and CART (now IndyCar); a 30-year sponsor partnership with Budweiser; and on and on and on.

ENCORE - BOB GLIDDEN: AN UNLIKELY CHAMPIONSHIP

12-4-07glidden.jpgBob Glidden had every reason to believe he wouldn’t win the 1980 NHRA Pro Stock crown.

Already a four-time champion, Glidden’s follow-up to an incredible seven-win 1979 season, got off to a bad start through a series of misfortunes, not of his own making.

First, Glidden’s major sponsor and factory supporter for the 1979 season, Chrysler, filed for bankruptcy leaving him to run the new season on his own dime.

Secondly, by the third event of the 1980 season Glidden was forced to return back to a Ford Fairmont, a car he admitted was not very good.

Thirdly, Glidden was forced to deal with a race team, in a Chevrolet Camaro, intent on dethroning him.

Facing such enormous obstacles, a lesser man might have given up. In that era or any era, Glidden has never been a lesser man.

NHRA ANNOUNCES REVISED SCHEDULE FOR MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES

In consideration of the COVID-19 global pandemic, NHRA officials announced today revisions to the 2020 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. The series is tentatively planned to resume June 5-7 with the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway. The season will conclude with the crowning of the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series champions November 13-15 at the Auto Club Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.

The revised schedule will consist of 19 total events, with 17 of those events being contested when the series resumes in June. Six of these events will be condensed to two-day competition schedules for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series classes due to economic and logistical factors. As a result of the compressed schedule points will not be reset after the U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway. NHRA has held two make-up dates on the calendar in case there are further delays.
