Caleb Cox, to borrow a line from the Brooks & Dunn song “Only In America,” was “looking at the promise of the promised land.”

The General Manager of Cruz Pedregon Racing has visited for the past three years with students at Franklin County High School and Middle School at Brookville, Ind., sharing motivational nuggets of wisdom he picked up along his own career path.

“I bring my firesuit and my helmet, talk about race cars, just kick it with them, and be a kid,” Cox said. “I might be 29 years old, but I’m still a kid. I can relate to all these guys and girls. And I’m just like, ‘Don’t act like I’m some grown-up. I play video games. I just play with race cars for my job.’ I try to tell them, ‘I’m only 10 or 15 years older than you. So I know exactly what you’re going through. I know exactly the seat that you’re in and what your mind’s like right now, so don’t think of me as some old guy who has been through the wringer. It’s just I’m giving you a piece of advice that I think you should listen to.’

After a successful trial at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona this year, the NHRA Wi-Fi For All Zone will be featured at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., March 12-15. This is the next step in a long-term rollout plan to enhance the fan experience through reliable wireless internet service throughout the pits, midways and grandstands.

At Gainesville Raceway, NHRA has invested in fiber networking and partnered with PMY Group to provide over 750,000 square feet of wireless internet access during the Gatornationals. NHRA has also partnered with GoZone WiFi to learn more about the needs and wants of guests and fans at NHRA events.

It only took 35 years for drag racing Alex Miladinovich to realize his dream of driving a fuel Funny Car on the highest level.

Miladinovich, who competed in a Nostalgia Funny Car for years, made the jump into the professional ranks at the Professional Racers Organization test session in Las Vegas. Then the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Ca.

Phil Lamattina and Peter Xiberras scored three wins each when they match raced at the 49th annual Westernationals, Perth Motorplex, February 29 - March 1.

The East Coast duo also shredded the record books with Xiberras setting a new track record of 3.85 then on the final run of the day Lamattina clocked an ANDRA speed record of 314 mph.

With standouts and defending world champions in both Pro Stock and Pro Mod as their customers, it was announced today that Quarter-Max Chassis and Components, and RJ Race Cars have been named major sponsors for the Drag Illustrated World Doorslammer Nationals presented by CTech Manufacturing.
 
The inaugural race takes place March 6-8 at Orlando Speed World Dragway and gives the star drivers in both Pro Stock and Pro Mod the spotlight. The winner in Pro Stock nets $75,000, while $50,000 will be awarded to the Pro Mod winner. Meanwhile, plenty of RJ Race Cars will be in attendance, including defending NHRA Pro Stock champ Erica Enders and reigning NHRA Pro Mod world champ Stevie “Fast” Jackson.
 
“We’re honored to be involved with this race,” owner Rickie Jones said. “It’s something we had to be part of because it’s going to be so big. Having Pro Stock and Pro Mod as the stars of the show is pretty cool, and we’re excited to be supporting it and participating in it. I’m sure it’s going to be a great event. Pro Stock and Pro Mod, along with Top Sportsman, that’s the core of our business. There’s big money in bracket racing and radial racing, so I think it’s long overdue for Pro Stock and Pro Mod. It’s an exciting opportunity for the racers.”

The 2020 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series kicks off March 5-8 at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., with the prestigious the Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet, a historic event that traces its roots back to the earliest history of the sport.

The series, which features thrilling racing action, highlighted by the crowd-pleasing, nitro-burning Nostalgia Top Fuel dragsters and Nostalgia Funny Cars, covers nine events across the country, including the National Hot Rod Reunion will be held at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., in June and the season-ending California Hot Rod Reunion at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in late October.

The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, developed in 2008 to help preserve NHRA’s rich history and tradition while providing racing opportunities for enthusiasts who enjoy nostalgia drag racing competition, includes two nitro categories -- Nostalgia Top Fuel dragster and Nostalgia Funny Car -- and two groups of additional classes. Group 1 includes A/Fuel, Jr. Fuel, and 7.0 Eliminator, while Group 2 includes Nostalgia Eliminator l, Nostalgia Eliminator ll, Nostalgia Eliminator lll, A/Gas, B/Gas, C/Gas, D/Gas, and Hot Rod Eliminator.

DRAW, which provides financial support to drivers and crew members injured in a drag racing accident at a track, will host its annual Tracy Winters Memorial Golf Tournament, Wednesday, March 11, prior to the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.

Ron Capps has a 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Series nitro Funny Car world championship on his resume.

Capps has won 64 NHRA national event wins – 63 in Funny Car and one in Top Fuel.

What Capps doesn’t have is a trophy from the prestigious March Meet at Auto Club Famosa Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif.

And, that’s something he covets.
