Drag racing icon Scotty Cannon will return to the nitromethane wars after a
three year absence. Cannon, of Lyman, SC., will drive Evan Knoll’s personal Top
Fuel dragster and fly the banner of the Seelye – Wright Auto Group throughout
the 12-event IHRA Championship Drag Racing series.

Cannon will serve as crew chief with
assistance from Jim Ermolovich and Todd Blakely. The team will debut late March
during the IHRA Texas Nationals in San Antonio, Texas. Knoll will also be
involved in performance monitoring on the team.

“This is an exciting time for this team,” Cannon
said. “I am looking forward to this. It’s been a while since I drove a dragster
and the experience is something I am looking forward to. This will be a
tremendous challenge. There’s nothing like running a nitro car.”

BERNSTEIN EARNS FC LICENSE

Six-time NHRA champion Kenny Bernstein today completed the required
runs at Firebird International Raceway necessary to obtain his Funny
Car license. NHRA rules state that a competitor must make two runs of
250 mph or faster and two runs of 5.50 seconds or quicker.

On January 29, Bernstein clocked 5.312 seconds at 209.85 mph in his
Monster Energy/Lucas Oil Funny Car and made a second run at 5.146
seconds, 271.13 mph.

After waiting for rain showers to subside for the past two days,
Bernstein today fulfilled the final speed requisite with a run of 5.94
seconds at 296.89 miles per hour.

WJ'S NEW LOOK

With
just over a week before the official start of the 2007 NHRA POWERade
Drag Racing season, work is proceeding at a furious pace at the Warren
Johnson Enterprises shop in Sugar Hill, GA. In many ways, it is just
like any other day throughout the year, with the sound of tools
clanging and the buzz of machinery periodically pierced by the roar of
yet another 1,400-horsepower DRCE III V-8 coming to life on the
dynamometer.

However, as the GM Performance Parts Racing team readies their sleek
Pontiac GTO for another campaign on the tough Pro Stock circuit, there
is a perceptible difference in the air. From the most recent hire to
"The Professor" himself, every member of the team is extremely upbeat,
well beyond the normal pre-season optimism encountered at this time of
year.

ESPN2 HD on a taped-delay basis as part of NHRA’s exclusive
relationship with ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports. The NHRA Lucas
Oil Series has a long-standing tradition of serving as a developmental
arena for the future stars of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Many of today’s top professional drivers, including Brandon Bernstein,
Gary Scelzi, Jeg Coughlin, Erica Enders and Ashley Force to name a few,
got their start in one of the NHRA Lucas Oil Series’ seven sportsman

FULLER RUNS 4.49 WITH MONO-STRUT CAR

Rod Fuller, the defending Top Fuel winner of the NHRA event at Firebird
International Raceway, turned heads last season by racing his Valvoline
dragster to a fifth-place finish in the NHRA standings. Over the
weekend, the Arkansas native raised more than few eyebrows when his
David Powers Motorsports team debuted the latest version of a Top Fuel
dragster equipped with a monostrut rear wing during the National Time
Trials at the Phoenix track.

The three-time NHRA Top Fuel winner became the first driver to record a
4.4-second elapsed time with a monostrut wing as the Valvoline team
completed preseason testing on Wednesday afternoon at Firebird Raceway.
On his only attempt of the day, the veteran racer used a tune-up from
crew chief Rob Flynn to power his Valvoline/Matco Tools dragster to a
performance of 4.490 seconds at 313 mph. Fuller lifted early on the
run. On his only other full pass of the six-day test, Fuller carded a
run of 4.530, 326. Tuesday’s action was washed out due to rain.
