PSM ROOKIE CHASE VAN SANT IS NO STRANGER TO BANDIMERE SPEEDWAY

NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle rookie Chase Van Sant will be competing in the class for the first time at the Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, July 14-16.

However, Van Sant is no stranger to racing at the track outside of Denver.

“I think I raced there for three or four years when I was probably 12 to 13 until I was 15,” said Van Sant, 25. “I went last year working for Jerry (Savoie) and Karen (Stoffer). So, it was my first time back, yeah, for a little while.”

When Van Sant arrives riding a Suzuki for White Alligator Racing in Morrison, Colo., it will be a farewell for the Mile-High Nationals.

CHASSIS BUILDER MURF MCKINNEY: ARNIE KUHNS WAS THE VOICE OF REASON

Veteran chassis builder Murf McKinney described him as the voice of reason in a sport where there have always been many voices.

Motorsports safety pioneer Arnold "Arnie" Kuhns, who dedicated his career to improving the safety and reliability of motorsports parts, passed away at the age of 83 on June 1. Kuhns, inducted into the SEMA Hall of Fame in 2002 and SEMA’s Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council (MPMC) Hall of Fame in 2016, was widely recognized for his contributions to the industry.

"He had multiple engineering degrees but never told anybody," McKinney said. "Arnie always played the dummy in the room. Even though he had all these degrees, he had an abundance of common sense. There's not a meeting that didn't go by that he didn't say, 'At the end of the day, what's the right thing to do?"

TURK FACES NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE WHICH PUTS ALLEN JOHNSON BEHIND THE WHEEL AGAIN

Geoff Turk admitted he once had a fleeting interest in movie-making. But even the guy whose then-future stepdaughter Erin once said, “You’re either a pathological liar, or you’ve had a hell of a life,” couldn’t have generated a script that produced the drama that played out in his life over the last few months.

When the Factory Stock Showdown frontrunner turned Factory X pioneer suddenly forgot how to send a text on his cell phone, he knew something was terribly wrong.

“I’d go to text and I asked my wife [Jena], ‘Hey, do you text with your thumb? Did they change the Apple keyboard?” Turk inquired frantically. “Because I can’t text, “I’m writing texts. I look at it; I got gibberish. And I’m trying to fix it and I got gibberish. Something’s wrong with the keyboard on the phone.”
