RICK BROWN PLAYS THE ROLE OF CALCULATED GAMBLER HEADED INTO ROOFTEC COMP BONUS FUND EVENT AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX

Rick Brown was only 16 when he started drag racing in 1968. He rolled to the starting line in a six-cylinder powered 1957 Chevrolet that stopped the timers at 19.20 seconds.

Fast forward some 55 years later, and Brown races a 2000 Chevrolet S10 truck powered by a 318 cubic inch engine that produces some 930 horsepower while racing in a class some might believe requires a Ph.D. to understand.

Brown is having the time of his life racing the NHRA's Competition Eliminator and running at the front of the pack in the Rooftec Competition Eliminator Bonus Fund.

NEOPMA GETS BACK ON TRACK THIS WEEKEND

Just a few weeks after rain put a stop to the official Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) season opener, the eighth-mile Pro Mod series is geared up for the House of Chaos Door Car Fury this weekend, May 12-13, at Maple Grove Raceway. It’s NEOPMA’s first time back at Maple Grove since the Koretsky family purchased the historic Pennsylvania track in 2022.

“Our whole group is really looking forward to getting back to Maple Grove this weekend,” said John Mazzorana, founder and president, NEOPMA. “The Koretsky family has made major changes to the facility since we last raced there, and they’re just getting started. We’re very proud that they decided to bring us in and make us a part of their Door Car Fury event.”

HULL RACING WITH RENEGADE RACE FUELS IN CHICAGO

Top Fuel racer Buddy Hull continues to make positive impressions and next weekend in Joliet, Illinois, at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals, he plans on keeping the trend moving forward. He will roll to the starting line at the stadium-themed Route 66 Nationals sporting the livery of Renegade Race Fuels along with primary sponsor Methanol Moonshine.

“This is a great opportunity for us with Renegade Fuels to be the primary sponsor on our 12,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragster during the Chicago race,” said Hull, who started his season qualifying No. 13 at the Arizona Nationals. “Renegade Fuels came on board this year joining Methanol Moonshine and Go Lithium and we could not be more excited.”

At the beginning of the season Hull announced the addition of Renegade Race Fuels as a major associate sponsor for his Methanol Moonshine Top Fuel dragster team.

BRUCE AND KEENEN CAPTURE FIRST CHAOS WINS AT SEASON OPENER IN EDGEWATER

It's safe to say Todd Bruce wasn't exactly the A/Fuel dragster everybody had their eye on heading into this past weekend's Nitro Chaos season opener at Edgewater Sports Park, as that nod went to Two-time NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Megan Meyer, who was making her return to the driver seat for the first time in competition since winning the last Nitro Chaos race at Mo-Kan Dragway in 2022.

That seemed even more evident in qualifying as Meyer blasted to the No. 1 qualifying position with a blistering eighth-mile 3.508-second pass at over 228 miles per hour, a run that was a full tenth quicker than the next-best driver. While Bruce, at the wheel of "The Bull" A/Fuel dragster out of Canada, who coincidentally beat Meyer in the final round of Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas in 2017 to capture his first career national event win, struggled mightily in qualifying smoking the tires early on each of his first two runs.

AUSTIN AND MARONEY IGNITOR FINAL ROUND SET FOR NIGHTFIRE NATIONALS IN AUGUST

That's why they don't race on paper.

While Drew Austin and Jim Maroney qualified at the bottom of the eight-car Nitro Funny Car field, heading into final eliminations at this past weekend's 52nd Ignitor from Firebird Raceway just outside Boise, Idaho, they were the two men left standing by days end.

Unfortunately, they both will have to wait to determine a winner as a second rain delay rolled through the area late in the afternoon, forcing the postponement of the highly anticipated final until August during the 52nd annual NightFire Nationals.

The storied event has seen racers from both series overcome obstacles and put down personal bests, and they have endeared and excited everyone in the process.

THE ROOKIE MONIKER DOESN'T FIT STEWART AS HE WINS AGAIN

If the NHRA handed out its Rookie of the Year accolades for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the contest would be over now.

Tony Stewart drove to the second win of his rookie season, putting down all challengers in winning the Cleetus and Cars Show; the most recent stop on the NHRA Div. 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series hosted by Indianapolis Raceway Park has now advanced to the finals in the last three NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events.

ANTRON, CAPPS AND COLER SPEAK IN WASHINGTON DC ON BEHALF OF DRAG RACING

Some things are worth fighting for. And for two past NHRA champions and an NHRA executive, they visited Washington, DC, to point out the virtues of motorsports in the United States.

Ron Capps and Antron Brown, along with NHRA Vice President of Track Management and Operations Kasey Coler, recently visited Washington, DC on Wednesday, April 26 as representatives for the National Motorsports Coalition (NMC) to share with members of the Congressional Motorsports Caucus and other lawmakers in Congress.
