Four-time defending Top Fuel world champ Steve Torrence raced to the provisional No. 1 spot in the NHRA’s first race in Seattle since 2019, grabbing the top position on Friday at the 33rd annual Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceway.

Bob Tasca III (Funny Car) and Erica Enders (Pro Stock) are also the provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the 13th of 22 races during the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season and the final stop during the three-race NHRA Western Swing.

SNEAK PEEK - WILD TOYOTA-POWERED SUPRA DOORSLAMMER

It is indeed a peculiar vehicle. Check out this Toyota Supra built for Jaime Cardona by Jerry Bickel Race Cars, destined to compete in the various high-horse Import Wars. This neat ride will be powered by a turbocharged Toyota J2Z engine and couple to a Liberty 5-speed transmission. It looks fast sitting still.

THE DON SPEAKS: AN INTERVIEW WITH SCHUMACHER

CARUSO’S ROOKIE LESSONS GO BEYOND DRIVING AND INTO THE BUSINESS OF THE SPORT

Camrie Caruso learned early in her Pro Stock career the importance of her left foot, keeping a car in the groove, and hitting her shift points. However, before she hit the button to start her Titan Race Engine in her Tequila Comisario Camaro, she already knew that without mastering drag racing’s business world, the aforementioned critical points wouldn’t matter.

A deal here, a deal there, and a growing number of partnerships are preparing the 2022 NHRA Rookie of the Year frontrunner for long-term involvement in the sport.

Together with her dad, former Pro Modified racer Marc Caruso, they have been working Corporate America for long-term relationships on a short-term basis.

NO MORE TALKING ABOUT IT; NHRA ADDS INJECTED NITRO FUNNY CARS TO TAFC

After years of flirting with the idea, NHRA's technical department announced that in 2023, the injected-nitro combination will now be accepted in its Top Alcohol Funny Car division.

The move was something NHRA had considered as a means to inspire participation in the class, which had been struggling for some time to fill fields.

BUILDER’S BRAWL TO PUT THE FOCUS ON THE RACER-BUILDER

As in all forms of motorsports, the seeds of drag racing were sown by racers who built their hot rods in a home garage or machine shed. If you wanted to race, you had to build it yourself by necessity. As the sport quickly matured, professional shops dedicated to constructing purpose-built race cars became the rule, not the exception.

Recent years have brought no-prep and outlaw-style drag racing to the scene. Having formed in the grass-roots, racer-built cars were common. With that niche of the sport maturing, big checkbooks and professional builds have taken over.

JUST LIKE HER DAD, AND BRITTANY FORCE IS FINE WITH THAT

Brittany Force prefers the shadow; it's much cooler there as she sees it.

This shadow has nothing to do with the traditional sense of the word but instead in the vast one cast by her father, the most iconic drag racer in today's straight-line racing world.

Force is perfectly fine with the reference, "that's John Force's daughter," as opposed to "there's Brittany Force, Top Fuel point leader, and past NHRA Top Fuel World Champion."

JUSTIN ASHLEY ADDS ASHTON PAVING FOR SEATTLE’S NORTHWEST NATIONALS

As the historic Western Swing concludes this weekend at Pacific Raceway Justin Ashley will be adding some local flavor to his Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy. Ashton Paving, a Salem, Oregon based company, will ride along at over 330 mph as Ashley looks to close out a three race stretch with a victory. Ashton Paving is a family owned and operated company specializing in residential paving as well as trucking and hauling logistic.

“We are always looking to partner with local companies that have a passion for drag racing,” said Ashley, a two-time winner in 2022. “I understand the importance of construction through my experience in real estate and fully appreciate the great job Bobby and Amanda Teeter do for their clients at Ashton Paving. Rich Bailey our marketing representative was kind enough to get everyone connected and I look forward to highlighting them and hosting their guests this weekend in Seattle.”
