CHARLES CARPENTER'S ORIGINAL 1955 CHEVY HEADS TO THE NC AUTO RACING HALL OF FAME

TASCA HAS A HOMETOWN RACE COMING UP

Bob Tasca III knows he has a team capable of winning the NHRA Camping World nitro Funny Car world championship.

His team has had some early-season struggles but he believes it is turning the corner after back-to-back semifinal round performances at the Circle K NHRA Four-Wide Nationals May 1 in Charlotte, N.C., and the Virginia NHRA Nationals in Richmond on May 15. Tasca is sixth in the points standings – just 41 points behind fifth place Cruz Pedregon.

“From where we started to where we ended in Richmond, we were pretty happy,” Tasca said. “We had back-to-back semifinal efforts at the Four-Wide and Richmond and the car is definitely running better early which is something we have have really been focusing on. Our car has run great speed all year, but it hasn’t run as hard early as we needed it to.

BILL SKILLMAN: CONNECTING AN AUTO GROUP WITH MARKETING IN DRAG RACING

The Ray Skillman Auto Group, based around the surrounding areas of Indianapolis, has made its name known in the NHRA Drag Racing world through racing and sponsorship endeavors.

Being in the car sale business and competing in the drag racing arena has had its plusses according to Bill Skillman, owner of the Ray Skillman Auto Group.

“You know what? We've sold a lot of cars through drag racing and it's hard to know about any advertising pallet what part of it works,” Bill said. “They say 90% of it doesn't work and the other 10% does, but you're afraid not to advertise everywhere. You don't know what works. Yeah, we've actually sold a lot of dually (trucks) and different vehicles to racers and just a lot of personal vehicles as well.”

THE LAST HOUSTON SPRINGNATIONALS - A FEATURE FILM

Veteran drag racing filmmaker Les Mayhew has delivered a masterpiece. Three weeks in the making, Mayhew chronicles the last national event for Houston Raceway Park. Turn up the speakers and sit back as we present the highlights of 35 years worth of drag racing history dating back to 1988.

There's fan interaction, hot drag racing action, and stories from those responsible for the facility located in Baytown, Texas. There's plenty of emotion involved in this film, and we feel confident in saying it is one of the best Mayhew has ever produced from the start to the final eulogy from NHRA announcer Alan Reinhart.

MOUNTAIN MOTOR PRO STOCK ICON JOHN MONTECALVO CONTINUES TO STEP OUTSIDE OF HIS COMFORT ZONE

There is stepping outside of one's comfort zone, and then there's what John Montecalvo has been doing lately.

Montecalvo, who is largely known for his prowess behind the wheel of Mountain Motor Chevrolet Pro Stocks, announced last month he had sold his Camaro Pro Stocker and would drive a Mustang Pro Stocker.

The shock had barely worn off the Chevrolet to Ford transition when Montecalvo stepped even further out of the comfort zone earlier this week and tested a 500-inch Pro Stocker.

Montecalvo saw firsthand the differences between the two styles of Pro Stocker were like night and day.
