SUPER COMP RACER HANDRAS SAVORING HIS FIRST NHRA WALLY

 

After a runner up finish due to an -.002 redlight last October in Charlotte, Michael Handras returned to ZMax Dragway two weeks ago determined to redeem himself and did just that in his debut race with new primary sponsor VP Racing Fuels and Lubricants.

The reigning Division One Super Gas Champion, who calls Brooklyn home, is fielding three cars this season in partnership with Duane Shields Racing. With a new hauler, new sponsors, and full-time crew member Jason Oteri joining the team, Handras’ win is the first National Event win in a career that spans more than 15 years.

'STELLAR MARINE PASS FOR THE CASH' TO KICK OFF AT NHRA VIRGINIA NATIONALS

Stellar Marine is proud to announce they will be awarding bonus money to the quickest elapsed time in Mountain Motor Pro Stock starting with this weekend’s NHRA Virginia Nationals in Dinwiddie, VA.  The program will be called the ‘Stellar Marine Pass for the Cash’ and will award $500 to the quickest elapsed time of the event whether that is in qualifying or eliminations.

Curt Steinbach, owner of Stellar Marine, was already heavily invested in the class prior to this announcement. He is the owner of a Jerry Haas-built 2022 Camaro that will be driven by Tommy Lee this season at PDRA and NHRA events that host Mountain Motor Pro Stock.  

NHRA PRO MOD SHOOTOUT SPECIALTY RACE SET FOR BRAINERD'S LUCAS OIL NATIONALS

The Fuel Tech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon is set to hold its first-ever shootout specialty race during the 2022 campaign, NHRA officials announced today.

The D-Wagon NHRA Pro Mod Shootout will take place on Friday and Saturday of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway on Aug. 18-21, giving 16 standouts in the Fuel Tech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon the opportunity to win the category’s first specialty race and the $10,000 prize.

REPEAT WINNERS RULE SEGA IN ALABAMA

 

Four back-to-back winners and one first-timer visited victory lane May 7, when the South East Gassers Association visited Lassiter Mountain Dragway in Mt. Olive, AL.

Earning his first SEGA B/Gas victory was Ted McKee, while Leslie Horne, Tim Hall, Rick Varner and Doug Loudermilk backed up their wins from last month at North Carolina's Shadyside Dragway in A/Gas, C/Gas, Super Stock and H/Gas, respectively.

HECTOR ARANA JR. TALKS CHARLOTTE, SEASON PLANS

 

There was a familiar face competing in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C. recently.

It was veteran rider Hector Arana Jr. 

Arana Jr. qualified No. 10 in his season debut before finishing third in his first-round quad to eventual race champion Steve Johnson and Angie Smith on May 1. Arana Jr. clocked a 6.867-elapsed time at 198.03 mph in defeat. 

Despite the results, Arana Jr. was upbeat about his team’s performance. This after all was the first time Arana Jr. was competing since the NHRA FallNationals Oct. 10 in Dallas, when he lost in the finals.

AUSTRALIA TOP FUEL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING ABANDONED BEFORE FINAL ROUND DUE TO WEATHER AND RESCHEDULED FOR MAY 21-22.

 

Reigning champ Peter Xiberras has eased his way into the points lead of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship after the final round of racing at Sydney Dragway was abandoned on safety grounds due to the rapidly plummeting track temperature.
 
The A final between rookie Shane Olive and Peter Xiberras, the B final with Phil Lamattina against Damien Harris and Wayne Newby versus Phil Read in the C final will be decided at Heathcote Park Raceway, May 21-22.

JIM READ RACING SPEAKS FOLLOWING READY-LINE EXPLOSION IN SYDNEY

 

In their first public statement since the horrific ready line explosion Saturday Night, Jim Read Racing [JRR] immediately thanked the drag racing community for its support. 

"We have been absolutely inundated with calls and messages of support from all corners of the drag racing and wider community since Saturday evening and we are very grateful to everyone for their well wishes,” Jim Read Racing Crew Chief, Bruce Read, said.

JRR also set the record straight on misinformation that was circulated following the incident.
