CAPPS, SALINAS AND STANFIELD RACE TO NO. 1 SPOTS AT FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

FORMER STARTER STEWART PASSES AWAY

Rick Stewart, the former NHRA official starter for more than 15 years, passed away Friday in his home state of Texas following an extended illness.

Nicknamed “The Ice Man,” Stewart was a fearless racer in the days of Top Fuel slingshot dragsters and subject of the 1965 documentary “7 Second Love Affair” before becoming only the second starter for the NHRA. Less than one month ago, March 10, he was inducted into the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing’s International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

Stewart stepped into the hard-to-fill shoes of the legendary Buster Couch in 1996 and became a legend himself with his usually easygoing manner as he stood between the lanes and maintained order on the dragstrip for 15 years. He retired at the end of the 2011 season. “It was just an honor and pleasure to be the one to follow behind Buster Couch,” Stewart told Competition Plus in 2012.

SCARY NO PREP CRASH CAPTURED ON VIDEO

Always be aware of your surroundings at the drag strip. This incident at the “Battle on the Asphalt” event at US-60 Dragway in Hardinsburg, KY shows how badly an accident can get when the throttle is hung wide open.

We are told there we no injuries from the accident.

AARON STANFIELD STAYS HOT, SNARES HIS SECOND NO. 1 QUALIFYING SPOT OF SEASON

The strong start by NHRA Pro Stock standout Aaron Stanfield picked up more speed Saturday.

The Bossier City, La., native qualified No. 1 at the Four Wide Nationals with a 6.642 second time at 206.42 mph.

PRUETT, J. FORCE AND STANFIELD RACE TO PROVISIONAL NO. 1 SPOTS AT FOUR-WIDE NATS

Top Fuel star Leah Pruett finished Friday in impressive fashion at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, picking up the provisional No. 1 qualifier at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals and moving a step closer to the first Top Fuel No. 1 qualifier for the first-year Tony Stewart Racing team.

John Force (Funny Car) and Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock) are also the provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the fourth of 22 races during the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season.

LEAH PRUETT GRABS PROVISIONAL NO. 1 TOP FUEL SPOT IN VEGAS

Top Fuel driver Leah Pruett had a great offseason, becoming a part of her husband Tony Stewart’s new drag racing team – Tony Stewart Racing.

The start of the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season has been forgettable.

Pruett took a small step to change her fortunes capturing the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot at the Four-Wide Nationals with a 3.741-second elapsed time at 328.06 mph at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

JOHN FORCE GOES TO TOP OF LAS VEGAS QUALIFYING LADDER

Legendary John Force keeps on doing it after all these years.

The 16-time NHRA nitro Funny Car world champion showed he still has it.

CAMERON FERRE EXPERIENCES HIGHS AND LOWS OF DRAG RACING FIRSTHAND

There’s no question the sport of drag racing can be an emotional roller-coaster.

Top Fuel driver Cameron Ferre knows that all-to-well – especially after last offseason.

On Nov. 14, 2021, driving for Paton Racing, Ferre had a career-best performance, advancing to the semifinals at Auto Club NHRA Finals season-finale in Pomona, Calif.

It was the highlight of Ferre’s career, and he was excited to parlay that momentum in more success with the Patons in the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series.

JOHN FORCE HAS BEEN EVERYWHERE, JUST NOT THERE

If only John Force, the colorful 17-time Funny Car champion (one in the ADRA), had a dollar for every autograph he's signed in his illustrious career.

Those dollars could likely field a fifth John Force Racing nitro entry.

Force has signed it all, including a pig. Yes, a pig.

ARP QUESTION OF THE WEEK - WHAT TRACK WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON NHRA NATIONAL EVENT TOUR?

With the announcement of the Wild Horse Motorsports Park's departure from the Camping World Drag Racing Series tour after 2023, NHRA said in their statement there were replacement tracks being discussed to fill the void left by Atlanta Dragway, Houston Raceway Park and now Phoenix. We've compiled a small lift of tracks and would like to know where you would like to see the NHRA set up shop possibly in 2023 or beyond.
