KRIS THORNE TAKES PRO MOD OPENER AT GAINESVILLE

Kris Thorne picked up his first career victory in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series on Sunday, knocking off Sidnei Frigo in the final round of the season-opening race as part of this weekend’s Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

The event, which was presented by FTI Performance in Gainesville, was the first of 10 races during the 2022 NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season

STANFIELD EXPLOITS CRAZY CONDITIONS, SCORES NO. 1 SPOT IN PRO STOCK

"We knew we were going to face some weather this weekend,” Pro Stock racer Bo Butner said of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series’ first trip to the East Coast this season. “But we did not anticipate that it would be quite this dramatic."

Aaron Stanfield made it even more dramatic Saturday on the Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway quarter-mile.

WEATHER ISSUES HAND REIGNING PRO STOCK BIKE CHAMP MATT SMITH NO. 1 SPOT BASED ON ’21 POINTS

The NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class had waited since last November to get back on the Camping World Drag Racing Series tour.

And once they got to Gainesville, Fla., amped up for the class’ season opener – the Amalie Oil Gatornationals – they had to wait more than day and a half extra. Rains swept away Friday qualifying, and early Saturday showers cost the morning hours before the Safety Safari crew gave every pro racer a relatively narrow window in which to complete just one pass that would set the fields for Sunday’s eliminations.

JUSTIN ASHLEY'S TF DRAGSTER RACING IN SUPPORT OF UKRAINE

Justin Ashley understands the magnitude of the situation.

Ashley is racing in support of the people of Ukraine through his Phillips Connect Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Shot at this weekend’s NHRA Gatornationals. The team plans to make it possible for the NHRA community to share in their support.

Ashley’s Winternationals winning dragster will highlight a simple message of support for Phillips-Europe, but moving forward, he will be encouraging the NHRA community to donate to United Nations Foundation, a nonprofit that is working around the clock to deliver assistance and protection to the people of Ukraine.

CARUSO HAS THE RIGHT MARKETING APPROACH WITH RIGHT TRAILERS

Pro Stock rookie Camrie Caruso is flying the colors of primary sponsor Right Trailers on her Chevrolet Camaro showing the versatile marketing power of the early favorite for NHRA Rookie of the Year. Caruso’s team has the backing of Right Trailers for the full season and is highlighting the relationship at one of the biggest races of the season.

Caruso is off to a perfect start in her rookie season, qualifying in the top half of the field at both the NHRA Winternationals and NHRA Arizona Nationals. The 24-year-old third generation drag racer picked up her first win light last weekend, outrunning Cristian Cuadra in the opening round of the Arizona Nationals.

ONE RACE DEAL, ONE RACE WIN BODES WELL FOR TAD RACER SMITH

With only one race to show his stuff, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster driver Will Smith knew he had to bring his A-game last weekend at the NHRA Division 2 Regional in Gainesville, Fla., better known as the “Baby Gators” to insiders. Smith inked a one-race deal with Samsel Racing to pilot their family-owned Top Alcohol Dragster. While he’s no stranger to the category, this event would be the first time he sat in the driver’s seat for the well-known racing dynasty, and he hoped it would not be his last. If luck is when preparation meets opportunity, then “luck” was certainly on Smith’s side as he powered the Samsel Racing Top Alcohol Dragster to the winners circle.

IT'S A GATORNATIONALS COMPLETE WITH THE GATORS

Gainesville Raceway has been deluged with rain over the last two days, and its likeness to a swamp has native alligators considering drag racing as a form of entertainment.

Multi-talented driver Alex Laughlin had a rather interesting exchange with one of the locals. While idle hands can be the devil's workshop, Laughlin decided to do something constructive and headed to Walmart to purchase a couple of remote control boats to pass the time. And, of course, a pair of rain boots to keep his feet dry.
