multi-year agreement with Torco International.

Their focus will be the automotive, motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV, and watercraft markets.

VIDEO TIME MACHINE - SPARTANBURG DRAGWAY 1974

This video clip comes from faithful reader Steve Brock who had an old 8
mm video converted of a spring day in Spartanburg, SC., 1974 when the
Coca-Cola Calvalcade of Funny Cars visited town. This classic piece of
drag racing memories features the Cassidy Brothers Grand-am Funny Car
and a score of Pinto, Vega and Mach 1 bodied entries. Other
southeastern sportsman legends include Gene Fulton's white wagon, Jerry
Jennings' Camaro and the former Pearson & Strange/Quain Stott
two-door 1955 Chevy Nomad wagon.

WILKERSON CHARTS NEW COURSE

After Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson put his Chevy in the winner's
circle at the St. Louis race in May earlier this year, it was
the first
time in 13 race seasons the 47-year-old owner/driver had ever sat at
the top of the Funny Car points standings.  ImageWilkerson still occupies
that same top spot as the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series enters its
Countdown to 1 playoffs with the first of six races, the inaugural NHRA
Carolinas Nationals at the new state-of-the-art zMax Dragway @ Concord
(N.C.).  The driver of the Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevy Impala SS
finished the 18-race regular season with a class-leading four wins
(tied with fellow Chevy driver Tony Pedregon), a class-leading four No.
1 qualifiers, and a 137-point advantage over second-place Pedregon.

"It's just a group effort on the whole Levi Ray & Shoup team,"
Wilkerson said.  "The car is running terrific and the guys are just
doing a great job.  We've formed a technical alliance with Don
Prudhomme Racing this year, so it gives me some opportunity to have
access to some equipment that I never had access to before.  In fact,
last year Don Schumacher allowed me to use some of his stuff from time
to time, and that really helped me towards the end of the year.  I
think there was just a great group of people involved with my old car,
and we're very excited to be in the position we're in, and hopefully we
can continue with our ride.

"I really think it's a carry over from last year.  At the Finals at
Pomona we were the fastest car down the track more than once and just
got beat in the semis by a little bit.  At Reading (Pa.) we ran good,
at Richmond (Va.) we ran good, and at Dallas we were No. 1 qualifier
and ran good.  So I just figured what I did wrong at those races and
how I could better prepare myself for each round."

CAROLINAS NATIONALS NEARLY A SELLOUT

Fans who wish to get a seat for this weekend's inaugural NHRA
Nationals at zMAX Dragway @ Concord need to get their tickets now as
just a few thousand tickets remain for Saturday and Sunday.

"This is the hottest ticket in drag racing," said Marcus
Smith, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "I know
many drag racing fans like to walk up and buy grandstand tickets the
day of the race, but that approach will be a big gamble this weekend.
Less than 1,000 tickets are left for Saturday and not many more for
Sunday. Both days will be sold
out and fans need to move fast to secure their seats."

The good news for fans who wish to attend the kickoff for
the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Countdown to One is that tickets
can still be purchased in advance for the four-day event at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com
or by calling the Lowe's Motor Speedway ticket office at
1-800-455-FANS.  A limited number of standing-room-only tickets will be
sold on site at zMAX
Dragway Saturday and Sunday.

EDWARDS TO FLY JOE GIBBS DRIVEN COLORS IN CHARLOTTE

Mike Edwards will have a just a slightly different look for the first
stop on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Countdown to 1 joe_gibbs.jpgplayoff, as the
team will fly the logo of Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil on the hood of
the team's Pontiac GXP for the inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals at
zMax Dragway at Concord outside of Charlotte, N.C.

The move is a goodwill gesture toward Gibbs himself and his company for
the longtime support of the team and the Young Life program.

"We thought this stop in Charlotte - NASCAR country - which is the
event closest to Gibbs' racing operations and his many other business
endeavors including Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, would be a perfect
time to salute what they have done," Edwards said. "Joe Gibbs and his
organization have given amazing support to my race team and more
importantly the Young Life program."

TASCA RELOCATING TO CONCORD

Rookie Funny Car driver Bob Tasca and his Tasca Racing Team have

TORCO ASSETS BEING SOLD OFF

Once the largest drag racing sponsors, Torco Race Fuels is now controlled by a court-appointed receiver.

According to the Kalamazoo Gazette, Robert Seely has been given the
daunting task of sorting through what many describe as a colossal mess.

Seely, of Kalamazoo, Mich., is currently fielding proposals for the
sale of all parts and assets of Evan Knoll’s Decatur, Mich.-based
business.

Court records, according the Kalamazoo Gazette, tell the story of why
IRS agents raided the company headquarters, and reportedly Knoll’s
personal residence to seize financial records.
